Okay, currently i have a USB HDD plugged into my Wii U system via a usb y-cable. This is taking up two slots, leaving no room for a wii/wii u lan adapter or anything else.
If I were to get a USB HUB with an AC power supply, would I be able to plug my HD into the USB no problem? Would I Have to use the y-cable or can I just use a single cable?

What Skywake said, just be sure it states that it powers hard drives, some don't, despite being externally-powered. It would have been a lot easier if Nintendo made this machine with enough power to the rear ports to power external drives.

Ah gotcha, so some USB hubs don't power HDD. I'll have to check that.
