I doubt it, sounded like Itagaki (creator) was given alot of freedom with the project and it's likely he is hoping this game is successful so he can build up franchise like Ninja Gaiden. I'm sure Nintendo are just publishing the title and offering support as needed. The W101 was totally funded by Nintendo and that's why they kept the IP, as you'll notice nether Platinum or Nintendo were too bothered about the low sales.

I actually think Devils Third has a very high chance to bomb despite how good it may or may not be, I'm not convinced the market is there on the Wii U in the first place. I don't think a single mature game has sold more than 350k other than Zombie U (800k estimated).

If Bayonetta 2 shifts less than 500k worlwide by January then Devils Third won't in its lifetime, in that case its likely we won't be seeing anymore big budget mature games on Wii U. Excluding those in development like Fatal Frame and maybe the two (somewhat reliable) rumoured unannounced 3rd party games.

Not sure. They are funding it, and they plan to release quite a few mature games through third party collaborations like these, according to their announcements at E3.
