When looking at the miiverse menu, it says everything has zero posts, but when I go into a topic, every post is there. Is this happening with anybody else?

Miiverse is having some issues which is probably to be a little expected with all the new systems. Nintendo just posted this recently to Facebook, "Oops. So many Miis have jumped on Miiverse that some may be having problems connecting to the service. We are in the engine room getting it fixed!".
Yeah, their servers go from maybe a few hundred in testing to 100s of 1000s all at once in a matter of hours and people are surprised it breaks. Once people get into a pattern of use they'll know how big the servers needs to be and when the load is. Currently it'd be just mayhem
So far, I haven't been able to get to the part of MiiVerse that has all of the Mii's gathering around their communities' icons; all I find are the forums. Could someone tell me how to get there?

Turn on the WiiU and look at the TV. That is where it is.
