@Tasuki have you thought about asking friends or family to help out. Let them buy the wiiu from you until you can pay them back.
That is a great idea unfortunately the only family I have is my mother (who only plays the NES and has no interest in any other system) and my brother who doesn't play video games at all. All of my friends I know don't have the money right now nor do they want a Wii U (They are all into Xbox and Playstation).
@Ryno: Yeah you are probably right that I would get more for the PS4 thing is part of the reason that I have come to terms with parting with the Wii U is that I hardly use it. The last time I used before a few weeks ago when SMB3 came out was when Ducktales Remastered came out. The PS4 on the other hand is used alot more and not only by me but by my son as well. We use it for DVDs and Blu rays, Netflix, WWE Network, as well as we play alot more games on the PS4 then the Wii U. Still again it's an option.

I know your not a big fan of Gamestop but they will give you cash for it. Doesn't hurt to check how much.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
@Spoony_Tech: Yeah I know but I have a few other used game places in my town that I want to check first. The problem with Gamestop is every time I call them to see how much I would get cash wise or credit wise they always tell me that I have to bring the item in. Freakin dumb if you asks its like how hard is it for you guys to look it up and tell me over the phone. I guess they figure if I am in the store with the item I am less likely to go somewhere else with it if they give me a lower quote then somewhere else I am not at. Just typical Gamestop BS.

Gamestop doesn't give you cash they give you store credit. No retail store that buys used consoles and games gives out cash.
Seeing as the Nintendo Store website sells refurbished Wii U's for $200 and how there's current bundles out now that are better than the launch Wii U (along with the upcoming Mario Kart 8 bundle) you'll most likely get $200 or less for it. You could try just selling the Wii U Gamepad, last I checked that alone can go for around $150.
Not sure what you are talking about but Gamestop does give cash? When I traded stuff in for my PS4 they always asked if I wanted in credit or cash.
Only problem I see selling just the Gamepad is that if I want to buy another one down the road when I get more stable I wont be able to get just a gamepad.

I've been in this situation. I had to sell my Wii and game library in order to have enough to pay for my phone and car insurance when between jobs and when I just couldn't get work anywhere. The best option was Craigslist/Kijiji, that's where I was able to get the most money. Although even then the guy got a real steal for my whole Wii collection all in mint condition of course.

Well then I'm guessing it varies by state or something since no Gamestop here offers physical cash for trade in.
As for getting another Wii U Gamepad, it is possible just rebuy one through eBay or you can get it replaced from Nintendo directly claiming yours got lost. There was an article over a year ago about someone who lost their Gamepad and it cost them $150 to get it replaced from Nintendo.
Their policies aren't different by state, they have to give you cash if you request it. Problem is its like 25% less then store credit so most people don't even bother!

Right. Also I am sure that the CEO's and such would prefer that you get credit instead of cash that way it keeps it in their store rather then you getting the cash and spending it elsewhere. In that case they probably don't say that they will give you cash so that why people just assume they only give credit. Basically dont say anything about it till they are asked.

Then if the stories I hear about how terrible Gamestop offers are I can only imagine how much worse it is with the 25% less for going with cash instead.
In any case you're most likely better off going with either eBay or Craigslist to sell it. The only negative is eBay has fees which you'll probably lose around $25 - $30 and with Craigslist you'll need to have a gun with you just in case.
Yeah but if you're in a pinch and need money today the option is there.
On a related story I was in Gamestop a few years back and noticed someone was trying to sell their dsi XL. They couldn't buy it back without a power cord of which he didn't have. He was begging them to do it so I stepped up and offered what he was asking for 40$ At that time it was a steal and became my son's CHRISTmas present! I would've paid like 90 at the time Plus I had an extra cord anyways! Right place at the right time I guess. Had one small scratch on the otter case but was perfect otherwise. Stirll going strong today!
that would at least help you save on electricity too....
But yeah, I'd cry if I had to sell mine. Glad that this thread popped up b/c my brother has been wanting to sell his and get a PS4, tho I think he just says that to hack me off. He has about $100 worth of games on it. So I guess $250 would be a decent price? I don't think he'll sell it.

Wrong. Quite a few local stores will do that to compete with gamestop and the like. My local store give you 1/2 of what they will sell it for in credit, or 2/3 of that in cash.
Honestly, selling your videogames sounds like a better and more mature solution than asking for money with relatives, who probably have their own problems.
@Moorpheel: That's pretty much it for one thing the amount I have my family can't loan me that much. I can however lessen it (Which I hope to do) by selling my Wii U and some games. Pretty much I will ask them as a last resort but I want to try and solve this on my own before pulling others into the mess. If that makes sense at all.

So a little update to my situation here. I did end up selling my Wii U sorta to my brother. (He's been wanting a Wii U for MK8 and Smash Bros). So basically it's over at his house and I got to keep all my save data on it so I can play it when I am over there and he ended up giving me some money for it. (I didn't want to take the money from him but he couldn't stand the though of me selling my Wii U to some stranger and losing all my stuff on it.)

@Ryno: Yeah even if I can't "buy it back" it's at his house so I will still have access to it. I still have my Wii and honestly that's what I was using the Wii U for mostly was Wii games. I might start saving a little bit here and there and wait to see what holiday bundles they come out with this holiday season and pick up another one then (either that or get my bro a bundle that he will like and just trade systems with him).

Good to hear.... it would be hard for me to completely part with my Wii U.
