Sony did an amazing job. They really did. People are so happy because, for many, they don't play Nintendo consoles anymore and they thought they were doomed to a generation of DRM and online connections. Sony saved them from that.
I have to admit, I was really caught up in the hype and almost slapped down a preorder for PS4 right then and there. But I didn't and took the night to think it over. When it comes down to it, I've invested a lot in my PC, and most of the games coming to Sony (and Microsoft's) machines are going to be on PC anyway. I may still end up getting one, just not right away. Not at launch. It's going to take some more exclusives like the Uncharted series, Ni No Kuni, and The Last of Us to win me over.
You're not exactly going to get a new type of gaming experiece with the PS4 that you couldn't already get with the PS3.
Wrong try putting games like The Witcher 3, Elder Scrolls Online etc on the PS3 not going to happen. You'll see a lot more games like these on the PS4, plus a lot more indie games. There are still 140 PS4 games in development 40 of them are exclusive to the PS4, so expect to see a lot more new games Q1 2014.
Exile20: I have no clue why people are acting like Sony is a savor when this DRM issue should not have been an issue in the first place.
You can thank Microsoft for that and the fact is DRM is an issue on the Xbox One.
OH God, I remember hearing "there are 762 games annouced for the Vita" also. Geez.
The whole point of his claim was that you got Witcher 2, you got Elder Scrolls already. You have the same games. Same games running on PS3.
From a rational, realistic consumer perspective, storage is super cheap and isn't a hassle to obtain. If the ultimate price of the console was lowered by even $50 by not including a larger HDD, it was probably a win for MOST console gamers who will be using discs anyway, especially on Nintendo consoles.

Wrong again the whole point of even speaking about Elder Scrolls Online etc was to say them games will never run on the PS3 unless its a cut down version Same as the MMO launch titles. Your telling me every PS4 game will be running on the PS3? there will be PS4 games on the PS3 because there still supporting the system but it's very farfetched to say every PS4 game will be on the PS3.

And i very much doubt Sony hinted at 762 announced games, what a load of BS lol...
Microsoft and Sony did impress. Lots of games and great looking games at that. Both made a strong case why they should be someones next gaming machine of choice. Microsoft still raises a few eye brows with the decision of online required and DRM for all games while Sony provided more of the same which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The gaming industry still looks like it has a bright future with lots of fun to be had no matter your choice of console. Nintendo gave what we come to expect with the usual run of titles and that's not a bad thing either. But all being said I have gone from someone who wasn't sure if they were going to get any of the new consoles and just stick to retro gaming to someone with a strong spiked interest in what all the new consoles will bring to the table and the new games to be played. I have decided through all this that Wii U will be my first console of the next gen and I will wait and see on Xbox One and PS4 which I will purchase next. Despite all the questions around Microsoft's decisions the new Kinect seems like it could be a lot of fun since it can function now as it was fully intended. How the move will be more incorporated into games also has me some what interested even though I have never been a big fan of motion control. All said and done they all look to be great pieces of hardware with great experiences to be had on them and I look forward to trying all 3 out. This E3 has not been a disappointment but new hardware is always exciting.

I don't even care about the online every 24 hours (my consoles are always connected), or the used game thing, but I still couldn't help laughing at that part of the Sony conference. People aren't hard to please, but MS still screwed it up. They should have seen the backlash and revised both policies after the console reveal. They've made Sony look amazing just for doing it the way it's always been done.
Crimson Dragon (why isn't anyone talking about this) & Killer Instinct on Xbox One looked neat, but PS4 has Kingdom Hearts III, and that just seals the deal (and to rub salt in MS' wound, Sony also had Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, and Final Fantasy XV).
This has everything to do with my personal preference, of course, and is no indication of which one is more likely to win consumers.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

On balance, in terms of software announcements, all 3 platform holders played it very safe. All ticked a majority of boxes relating to their various areas of strength.
Nintendo were certainly in that mode, showing bankable million+ sellers in abundance. It might have seemed boring to everyone who knew what was coming, but they have to shore-up the platform somehow.
And the Nintendo titles look good. Kart looks great - lets hope its a racer. SM3DW also looked great, and EAD Tokyo will deliver, I have no doubt about that. I must admit that I was hoping for something with the theatre of the galaxy games though. DKC:TF… I get it. Needs must. Etc, etc.
By far the biggest disappointment is there was no surprise title, especially a new title from Retro. That's what's stinging I think for the fans right now. They were looking to be inspired by something, something outside of the bankable.
Maybe something that focussed on and helped define what makes Wii U special. Didn't see a lot of that.
And I feel the TW101 isn't getting as much airplay (online press etc) as it deserves. It looks really good.
On the Wii U front, there will be plenty to play from next month. My picks:
Pikmin
NSLU (maybe)
DKC:TF
Watchdogs (maybe)
TW101
WW HD
Rayman Legends
Mario 3DW
You know, having stepped away for a bit and gone about my day, I feel like I'm seeing things with a totally different perspective now.
Most of us complained a lot about the Direct this morning. We thought it was a huge letdown. I was one of those people. A major reason why I think we weren't exactly floored was the simple fact that we pretty much knew exactly what was coming. We were all hoping for a big surprise, but it never quite came, and that really shouldn't be... a surprise! ha! Smaller surprises were in there, sure - Mega Man in Smash Brothers, for instance. Bayonetta 2's new character style seems to be getting some attention, as well.
But what I'm thinking now is this: the games Nintendo showed off are all going to be good. We are all quick to judge and hate and discard, but when it comes down to it, these games are going to rock. When Wind Waker comes out in October, only the truly stubborn will still have their arms crossed and tongues sticking out. When Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 hit, I am equally certain that the level of polish and fun on both games will inject some new life into the Wii U.
We've all been chanting the word "patience" this year, but I don't think I truly knew what that meant until E3. Patience to discern the truth behind Microsoft and Sony's consoles, and patience that Nintendo, very soon, will be bolstering the Wii U with some staple titles.
