I was wondering this recently as I didn't get a Wii U (lack of games that interest me, waiting for the big releases and more polish on the OS) but instead a beloved gamecube in good condition off ebay (for just 19 euro, a steal, including memcard and 2 controllers and 2 games) and now I am hunting down all the games I missed the first time round on ebay I realized one thing: That I really loved the gamecube controllers and the reason I only had a Wii for a short time is (besides lack of good games early on) that I hated the nunchuk and the remote and even the classic controller was nowhere near the quality of the cube controller and hardly as much supported as I might have liked. Anyways, I see the Wii U using the gamepad, maybe a second gamepad in the future, no one knows yet, the wii remote plus' as well as the pro controller and the nunchuk. I've been reading that different NIntendoland games use different controllers and it can be quite an investment into controllers just to play this launch title in all possible ways with your friends if you haven't got a backpack full of your old wii remotes.
Do you think this will become a problem in the long run, like people have to check on the game when buying it what controls it supports to make sure they have a fitting supply of everything at home to be able to enjoy it full?
I definitely feel its a little offputting to me, so what do YOU guys think?

Well every game I've played supports the Gamepad at a minimum, so you only need a remote/nunchuk combo to add multiplayer or for control options (the pro controller is covered by the latter - no way that will be required to play anything). To address that confusion there is a Wii U-branded kit which includes a Wii Motion Plus remote and Nunchuk.
I think the folk who are most likely to be confused are those that aren't aware that "Motion Plus" ever existed because some games need motion plus for multiplayer games and some don't, but I think that will be a minority of people.
I don' t think the number of controllers is a problem really, most games assume the player has the "basic" prepacked controller as a minimum. That was one of my favorite things about the Wii remote and nunchuk, there were so many different ways to use them.
I do think it was sort of a mistake to handle reusing the old controllers the way they did though. I like that they let people reuse their "old" controllers and its great for people upgrading from the Wii, but they didn't really make it too clear. There are bound to be many consumers that either don't have a Wii or sold theirs for whatever reason only to find out they have to buy $60 worth of controllers per player, or could should have kept them. Either way those people won't be too happy.
It's not a problem at all for me. In fact, I'm glad Nintendo has allowed me to use the 4 sets of remotes, nunchuks and classic controllers I've obtained over the years.

That's the way it goes when you sell stuff. But Wii Sports is the best selling console game of all time--I'm sure there are still plenty of Wiimotes out there. The gamers who still have a backpack or two filled with them will be all too happy.
And if you've been actively playing your Wii as I have then you've likely upgraded all your Remotes to Motion Plus versions by now. I did sell two Nunchuks though as I just don't play games which have more than two players and would require them.
What other choice do they have? The Wii U only supports two gamepads (currently 1 though) so Wiimotes are the only option. And also, most people have Wiimotes because Wii Sports is the top selling game of all time...

Its really not a problem for me I stil have a few wiimotes and a couple nunchucks and two classic controllers and the gold CCP. The only problem is that two of my Wiimotes are the old ones without the motion plus and I dont have the dongle for them either so at some time I am going to have to trade them in for a couple of motion plus Wiimotes.

I can't find one of my motion + attachments, so I'm kinda sad I misplaced it... Really, Nintendo kinda mashed Wii w/ Wii U, so you either already have the remotes, or were going to have to buy ones anyway in a sense. The classic controllers work basically the same as the pro(besides needing a Wii remote and stick buttons/placement), so that's a plus. I was fighting my bro for the Pro, but then realized the classic worked just as good for Sonic(IMO).
So they made last gen controllers BC compatible. Out with the old, and in with the new... old. New...
It's a problemmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Had to walk to my friends to play his Nintendo Land and he no has mote + so i had to stuff pockets full of nunchucks and wiimotes to go play

Use a backpack. Hasn't school taught you anything? Haha. Just kidding... It's a problem if you don't have them already.

Thats true, I was just thinking about the people who might be a bit butthurt and blame Nintendo. Though come to think of it haven't some of the adds shown people using them for multiplayer? Its kinda funny in a way that the whole Wii/Wii U confusion could actually work to their advantage here.
It's ok, they'll just print 1 billion dollars here in U.S., and we'll have more money to buy stuff. Haha... That's pretty much how it works now I think.

I don't see how it would ever be a problem. All Wii U games are going to support the Wii U gamepad and if you have a Wii U then you probably have the Wii U gamepad. Therefore it shouldn't be a problem when buying games. In terms of local multiplayer component maybe, but that's something that is seems to be often overlooked on a lot of releases now. Sure it would confuse them if they were say trying to get a bunch of people on the system for X game, but so many of them support the Wii mote that I feel we won't see a whole lot of confusion or make the wide range of controllers that can be used a problem.
For what it's worth, there'd be a different controller option doing the exact same thing. So those people without controllers would be paying up anyway. The only difference is that they can buy used/cheaper, so it's a plus. In terms of confusing people, they'd probably be confused anyway since other controller options would have to exist. It'd be pointless to add more controllers when there are viable ones that already exist.
Let me put it this way: if the next Sony or Microsoft device has a new controller that does nothing new, then I'd like the option to use the older controller I already have.

Since when has a console ever come with "all the controllers needed" for a full multiplayer experience? It's no different than when the Wii launched and required four remotes and nunchucks for some of the games. Or even back on the N64 when to get the full Smash Bros experience you needed four controllers. Only difference is that now it comes bundled with a "special" controller and supports five player multi instead of four.
I'm sure when Mario Kart Wii U and Smash Bros U come around people will be running for the Pro Controllers.... but even that's not new because we all did the same for those respective games on the Wii. Nothing's changed and it wasn't a problem before so I don't see how it could possibly be a problem now.

Sad fact is that its exactly how it works.
