So I just bought a card with a picture of the wii u and the 3ds on it. I have both consoles. Do I have to put the card on the 3ds or the wii u? Is it one account that I can use for both systems or does it have to be one or the other? I want to buy virtual console games and/ or eshop games for both consoles. Does this mean I have to buy a card for both? Any help would be great. Thanks!

The picture of the Wii U and the 3DS probably illustrates that the card may be used in either console. You'll want to have a separate card for each console, that way you won't have to worry about available space and which console it may or may not have been left in at any given point in time. Games purchased for the VC in one eShop will not be transferable to the other system via SD card or any other means as of this point in time, i'm afraid.

But let's say I put the card code on my wii u.... And I am on my 3ds and decide to buy a game. Can I hop on the 3ds and download a game? Will the account balance carry over from the wii u?

No. They are separate accounts.

I just wish we could have one master account that we could add funds to that we could use on all consoles... I don't care if my games work for al consoles (wii, wii u, 3ds)...
