"...the patents claim "protection for an interactive system for which a user can remotely control devices in an intuitive manner." These patents supposedly prevent the production, use, sale or import of "human-computer interaction systems" in the judicial district of Delaware."
How unspecific can you get?

Like I just said on Miiverse, not worried in the least bit. At the very worst it will be like the 3ds and they will have to pay a fine and royalties from past, present, and future system sales. Highly doubt they would force Nintendo to shut down production. Besides Phillips stands to make money off sales so why halt the sale of the unit. If anything Nintendo should sue them for the horrible use of their franchises!
Gotta love the timing as well with Kart 8 due to hit in 2 weeks!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
The 2 patents in question are 6,285,379 and 8,537,231.
8,537,231 found here http://www.patentbuddy.com/Patent/8537231 is stupid. It was filed in 2009 and the wii came out in 2006. Prior art should knock it out since the drawing shows a wiimote knock off.
6,285,379 found here http://www.patentbuddy.com/Patent/6285379 Will be more challenging since it seems they filled a patent to control an avatar via motion control in 1996.
It will be interesting.
Edit: power glove might be the best defense for 6,285,379.
The first patent doesn't have a chance. Nintendo's Wii U and Wii systems do not use the interface described in the patent. And of course since the patent was filed and issued after the Wii came out, there is no case here.
I'm not entirely sure what the second patent is trying to present in this case. The Wii and Wii U don't infringe this at all

Nope, even the seemingly challenging one Phillips will still lose. I read the abstract, the patent indicates technology where your body movements are modeled virtually and instances where the virtual constraints are given as force feedback physically. It's like virtual reality, which is not what Nintendo does with the Wii and Wii U. Carry on as normal.

I agree it is definitely abstract. I also do think it will loose but I think that this is the patent that will keep it from being tossed immediately.
When I saw this over on IGN, I just had to laugh a little bit. All while saying "wow, someone is trying to sue Nintendo again?" Lol. Of course this is bad, but I find it to be pretty comical.
I am going to file a patent for any device that is operated using an index finger. Thus any controller that incorporates shoulder buttons must be withdrawn (and pay damages).
Phillips was founded by a communist and it seems there business ethics have changed little.
these guys are still around?
i heard they went into the potato peeler business,
much success!
