Why do people want Nintendo to be more like Sony or MS? I mean I see Xbox and PS3 fans say all sorts of crap against Nintendo consoles giving the impression that if Nintendo were more like them, that they would buy a Wii, Wii U, 3DS etc.

Don't get me wrong, I own a PS3, owned an Xbox 360 and will buy a PS4 and possibly a 720. The reason I sold my Xbox is because it was to me basically the same as my PS3. I don't want Nintendo to be an exact copy.

The gamecube was very much the same as an PS2 and XB and that failed for Nintendo. I think if Nintendo were too much like the competition, they would struggle. Sure I want more 3rd party support for my Wii U, but I think it's important Nintendo try and be different.

Nintendo plays to it's strengths and while I think there is much they can learn from their competitors, I hope they continue to try and innovate in an industry where too many games look and play the same.

Nintendo should be respected for being different not crticised for it.

It seems you can't respect opinions that differ from your own. Who cares what other people say about Nintendo? Play the games you want to play and don't worry what others think.

Opinions can only be respected when supported by 1st party facts or personal experience.
The overwhelming majority of people with negative opinions know next to nothing other than hearsay, that is they neither own nor have spent time playing the console- that's not how opinions worth respecting should be based.

Show me someone who has bought a fully functioning Wii U and has no intrinsic home internet issues who can articulate specifically everything that it is they don't like and there will be an opinion worth respecting...

Your expectations are flawed. Someone who invests in a product and finds that the product works as expected is never going to be critical of the entire experience. For that to happen the would have had to have no interest in the product in the first place, and would never have purchased it.

And so, in an effort to dismiss criticism against this product that you have clearly developed an emotional attachment to (and so are an unreliable source of information yourself) you have demanded an impossible case study.

It's not a solid foundation to hold a debate over.

There's nothing wrong with being different than everyone else

The people who play as many games as I do respect all types of video games, from Microsoft to Nintendo to Sony to Indie to iOS, to the vast genres that each has as well.

This, exactly this. All I ever hear is gimmicky this and under-powered that, and most probably haven't even played it. It'd be different if they said something along the lines of "I'm not into that sorta thing" or "I'm worried the console won't last".

I would like Nintendo to be more like the competition reguarding online networking, but thats it. If they became more like Sony or MS we' d see nothing but shooters and sequel upon sequel, each IP only gets 1-2 games per console (if any) while Halo alone has had 4 (not counting Halo Wars). One of the reasons I like Nintendo is the variety of different games and genres, something Sony also used to have alot more of (I hardly even buy consoles for 1st part games to begin with). Heck, there are a few series' that used to appear on playstation that have gone purely Nintendo (DQ, HM, MH).

Everybody respects uniqueness. Everybody respects the boldness and audacity that comes with uniqueness. However, nobody takes risks they cannot guarantee will pay off, nor do they advise such.

If you can't adhere to that fact, then you don't have to.

Respect is earned, not given. Nintendo has done nothing to earn my respect, thus they are not respected. Try harder Nintendo.

Of course fanboyism is always BAD in every direction my friend.
What people that have PS or XBOX are complaining about (rightfully) is Nintendo not having industry standards like analogue triggers on the gamepad (even though they had the best triggers on the gamecube) and not having built in party-support or voice chat systemwide like PS or XBOX, that's not finding excuses to bash on Nintendo that's just Nintendo not being on par with the competition.

Sure, Nintendo shouldn't copy but some features are just standard nowadays and since there are no real alternatives to the lack of these features its just bad of Nintendo forgetting about it or not caring about it.

That said, if YOU are happy with your new console, why even bother about other people's opinion? Seriously?!

@Scollurio: Just because a certain aesthetic is viewed as the cultural "standard" doesn't necessarily mean it must be included. As long as a console has the bare necessities and mandatory functions, it is no worse than any other "standard" console and it certainly isn't "inferior to the competition".

Besides, each company has their own standards, despite whichever is in the majority. Let's just leave it at that.

You would think that things like systemwide voice chat and having a control mechanic that allows for a multitude of uses is something considered standard, and even if it is NOT standard by your definition, it is surely something most people that have been in other markets (i.e. xbox and ps) in the past years expect to have when they make the switch to Wii U or get it as supplementary system. At least that was what Nintendo was aiming for right? Get the core audience back - whatever - by definition - that is!

Anyways Im not here to kick sand into anyone's eyes Im just stating that people who are disappointed about not finding a feature that can be expected in 2012 have a right to voice their opinion as much as people doodling gumbas on miiverse because they're so happy with their purchase!

@Scollurio: Sure, system-wide chat is nice. Is its absence on the Wii U disappointing? We'll let the performances of third-party developers decide that for us. Is it a necessity? Not completely, considerably with the presence of Miiverse and Wii U Chat. This is but one opinion on that example.

I'm not defending Nintendo's decisions or standards, nor will I bother to attack them. The bottom line is, if it has an existing alternate solution or isn't a mandatory inclusion, the argument of having "standards" is weak (and arguably constricting).

It all boils down to personal preference. What you consider "not necessary" in a console might be necessary to someone else. You can argue all day about what should and shouldn't be standard in a console, but ultimately the market will decide.

I respect myself for being the Epicly awesome sensitive Otaku gentleman that I am, if people don't respect me for that, then it's ok just gives me more reason to love myself, and hopefully when I move to Japan a lady will as well
