Topic: People and misunderstanding Wii U, Whats the best example you have?

So today I was browsing the reddits and saw this

This to me seems like people just assuming it without even knowing, but reggies face is pretty hilarious! Anyone else have some examples like this or forum post or something?

The worst misunderstanding I've heard from a lot of people is assuming that it is weaker than both Xbox 360 and PS3.

I've seen plenty of people calling the Wii U next gen. There's a start.

One time a freind of my mine didn't realize it had a tablet controller after seeing a Wii U commercial, instead he thought you could connect an iPad to it.

Best example? People saying WiiU is NOT next-gen. It's obviously not going to be more powerful than PS4 or the NextXbox, but this thing has power where it needs it and games will look great. Ninja Gaiden 3 is one of the best looking games I've seen on WiiU (graphically speaking). I don't see PS4 stomping WiiU in graphics like PS3 did to Wii. It won't be that big of a difference.

Next Generation - pertaining to the next generation in a family (the family being Nintendo home consoles); also, pertaining to the next stage of development or version of a product, service, or technology (next stage up from Wii)

The Wii U is the product Nintendo will sell during the next console generation. Therefore it is part of that generation. The sophistication of the console's architecture or its level or sales do not define whether or not it is next gen.

I heard a guy in a gaming store over here (GAME) say: "No, I'm not looking for a portable system I want something for the TV" when the employe recommended a WiiU since he said he like the Wii.

I was like:

my friends teasing me everyday at school and saying it's for kids even though you hear kids on xbox and ps3 but I haven't heard 1 on the wii u....... and my friends tell me everyday it's outdated system.

I can tell you for the "hardcore" crowd (I know, I know, I hate that term) the kiddy image of Nintendo from the Wii years has not gone away. My friends are very serious gamers, and most own a PS3, 360, and gaming PCs. Most were pretty shocked when I bought the Wii U, not because they didn't understand it was a separate system from the Wii, but that they strongly believe it is still a kid's system. I remember telling my one friend how I managed to snag one right around release. I was on the phone, and there was just this awkward silence until he finally said, "Are you serious?" I can say, with no "fanboyism" attached here, that when I invited each of those friends over to play it, they had a blast and were signing a different tune by the end of the night. Even still, I'm betting most of them won't buy a system until a game like Zelda or Metroid comes out for it.

Sooooo from my perspective, it's not that Nintendo needs to show people the Wii U is a separate console from the Wii. They need to put out a TV or Youtube ad campaign showing a whole slew of the more mature and awesome games the system has, minus the corny images of 3-generations of family members gathered around the TV/gamepad. Yes, that worked with the Wii, but that market alone will not support this system the way it needs to be. Reach out to the gamers!

Well people usually mistake the Wii U for a next-gen console. So that`s a start.

They play PC and think they are better and so high and mighty they can't just play games and enjoy them and respect my gaming choices I sometimes think they spend more time arguing that PC is the best then playing actual games! haha

All that matters is whether or not you're enjoying it and if you are then that's what you got it for. Back in 1997 I wanted a Nintendo 64 and my brother (who is a fair bit older than me) had a Playstation. My parents said they couldn't afford a Nintendo 64 so I thought I was getting nothing. Eventually they surprised me with a SNES. It wasn't a N64 but I didn't complain because by then they were fairly cheap and most games were cheaper than they are now on the eShop. I played the hell out of it and loved every second of it. I didn't care that the Mario Kart 64 demos in the shops looked as awesome as they did because I had Super Mario Kart and in my mind that was just as fun.

Technically the Wii U is more powerful than the 360 and PS3 but you can plainly see how little value that fact has on its image. Technically the 360 and PS3 are soon to be "outdated" systems but that doesn't mean the 360 and PS3 will abruptly become less fun than they were before. If you enjoy your Mario Karts, Zeldas, Metroids and Marios you own the right system. If you don't care for that then the 360/PS3 are as good as any platform if they have the games you're after. If you are after what's "high tech" and what's not "outdated" then build yourself a gaming PC. Anyone who suggests otherwise misses the point of gaming. Gaming is about enjoying games.

ahh, PC gamers. Then they're right. Every console is "outdated" even the yet to be released ones. They do have some cool exclusive games however and are slightly more convenient for TV based gaming.

Yeah I honestly could care less what my friends say I just shrug it off my friends say wii u is lame and my friend makes minecraft tutorials so I just bag him or bag whatever they play I love my wii u I can't get great games anywhere else so that's why I bought one and that's what I always say why would I buy an xbox, ps3 or pc I can't play the new Mario, Zelda, Metroid!!! also I expect there to be awesome games coming I preordered pikmin 3 already but I can't wait for other titles like animal crossing, harvest moon, shin megami tensei x fire emblem and monolith softs new game!! so I'm really happy with my system and take pride in it

The biggest misunderstanding is that Nintendo home consoles don't have third party experiences that are both great and exclusive.

I'm still not that sold on the "kiddy" thing everyone seems to be complaining about... A game is a game, why would someone care if it doesn't have blood/extreme violence/cursing/nudity if it's the same game? We don't play games for that, we play games for fun. By lowering the rating more people will be able to enjoy this, so why prevent people from having fun just because selfish adults want "hardcore very mature bloody games" to give them more self-esteem because of what they're playing? Honestly, I'm proud of Nintendo for keeping their family friendly nature all these year and I hope they continue. I don't want to enjoy games alone, I want my younger brother and everyone I know to be able to enjoy everything the way I do. Gore/nudity/profanity won't add anything to the game. But that's my opinion, feel free to correct me if my ideal is wrong.

I do agree with you on this one. I always see the Wii U as next gen mainly because of its innovation & as a product being sold during the next console generation. If it came out around 2005 then I would have called it current gen cuz it's part of that generation. The innovative factor played a big role on what's next gen. Some people may say the Wii U is underpowered for a next gen console but no one can deny that it's the first of its kind with off TV play & assymetrical gameplay & there's the innovation there. Though console raw power plays a pivotal role of what's next gen there's also some elements added to the mix that makes it next gen - mainly innovation. If you strip the Wii U of its Gamepad there's really nothing there that truly differentiate it from the current gen consoles. Overall, it's the Gamepad that truly makes the Wii U next gen.
