I have just set the parental controls on my new Wii U to restrict what my 7 yr old can do. I love that it can do this. For my own user profile of course I have access to everything. But, unless I'm missing something, couldn't my son simply change users and play as me if he really wanted to access anything? There seems to be no stopping that!?

You can set it so that when you select your Mii/Nintendo Network account at startup, it requires your password. Just launch the Wii U menu, select User Settings (the picture of your Mii in the top left corner), scroll down, select no for "Save password?" and "Set as default user?".
