Despite how consistently good each M&L game is, I feel the first two Paper Mario games are better. I can't put my finger on it, but Paper Mario for the N64 is one of of those few games that I can play over and over and over again without ever getting tired of it. While I did finish the first M&L and have played the other ones, they just never held my interest as much.
I hope either the first Paper Mario is re-released on the WiiU as "Paper Mario HD", or we get a fifth game just like the first one. If either was done, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
The first two Paper Marios are among my favorite games ever. They are wonderful in every respect and have beautiful stories. Mario and Luigi was fine but - really not so special.
When I heard that the story had been cut from Sticker Star I lost interest - though I did meet someone who played it and really loved it.
Does anyone have an opinion on whether Sticker Star matches up to the original and Thousand Year Door - especially in the story department?

I don't see any way in which Sticker Star could compare to the original two in the slightest. As far as story goes, Sticker Star has next to none. I don't think it's the worst game out there, but I definitely don't think it could live up to the first two either.

in the story department... I'd say sticker star doesn't match up to even chapter two(the one of the punies) of tTYD.
gameplay wise..... the battle system is also turn based that's the only comparison..
but when it comes to fun it gets almost close to the frst two
and the soundtracks in Sticker Star beat all the other Paper Mario soundtracks easily(if you take them as a whole, there are some in the previous games that draw )
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

Good question. Personally though, I'd probably prefer a decent Wii U Paper Mario game (aka not a Sticker Star sequel) to a home console Mario & Luigi title. Just because I want to see at least one more Paper Mario game that's the same quality as Thousand Year Door.
@8BitSamurai While I agree that's it's one the worst things to ever happen to gaming, especially for RPG lovers.. aren't they pretty much Square-Enix now? I don't know the whole story.. I just imagined that most of the people and titles went to Square-Enix.

Thanks for your input. I'll maybe get it eventually. Right now I am looking forward to Pokemon X and Pazudora (Puzzle and Dragons) Z for Christmas so I guess I'll have my RPG addiction satisfied for a while!
If they did a 3DS remake of the original Paper Mario (or Thousand Year Door) I would get it for sure!

Square and Enix merged into Square-Enix, but unfortunately, most of the people who worked on the Square and Enix (Especially Square) classics have long since left.

Ahh.. that makes sense I guess. I always just figured that when they merged the new company owners were taking them in a new and crappy direction. They used to make my favorite games. At least Bravely Default looks like a step in the right direction.
