Mario, Mario Kart and DK have crashed the Wii U already and all amazing installments. I know the hype is now processing the great MK8 and that all of us will be focusing on Smash Bros. and ofcourse Zelda , but I for one would also love to see a the fifth Paper Mario appear on the Wii U. I've played 3 out of 4 Paper Mario games (no sticker star, because I don't own a 3DS or 2DS) and I enjoyed them all. The first two more than Super Paper Mario on the Wii, but nevertheless, still enjoyed it. Aren't you guys interested in seeing another Paper Mario appear? If so, would you prefer the RPG style or the Super Paper Mario style?
Definitely. But I'd like it to stick with the Super Paper Mario style. Why? Because Mario & Luigi is already doing the action timing turn based system, we don't need two franchises focusing on the same type of battle system. Before SPM, I don't Nintendo hadn't had an action RPG since Zelda 2. And Action-Platformer RPGs are rare across the whole industry
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
Keep M&L as their turn-based series
Continue with the action-RPG style of Super Paper Mario
Release both on both handheld and console (even if they're the same game besides things like resolution and inevitable version exclusive features because Nintendo loves them some version exclusives e.g. Pokémon and the upcoming Smash).
I liked SPM, but the fighting style didn't leave much room for strategy. The turn-based style of Paper Mario and Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door had you thinking about the right move or item you would use in your turn. Plus, the 3D environment felt more adventurous to me, since you had more ways to go, which added to that typical Paper Mario feel. SPM was almost all 2D, except when you had to move to 3D to pass a difficult part of the game. And ofcourse, you could walk around in 3D without the meter running out after you beat the white dragon (figtail??) on the other side of town. But that wasn't really fun, since most of the game was focused on 2D play.

I'm not saying it has to stay in 2D. Keeping the action elements and moving it to 3D could be really cool.
Part of my issue with turn based combat is that it gets boring. Sure, you have times of heavy strategy against bosses and minibosses, but what about Goombas? It can just feel like a grind. Also, action combat isn't supposed to be strategic, it's supposed to be engaging and exciting. It's kind of like playing Chess vs. playing Tag. I understand that some people really like the more strategic way, but like I said Nintendo has PLENTY of games like that. Pokemon, Golden Sun, Mario & Luigi, and Fire Emblem. The only game that have that even comes close to SPM's style is Zelda 2.

I have to admit, I can recall many times when I thought "Oh god, again those damn Goomba's!". Moving to a 3D environment should definitely happen, but I agree that the RPG style isn't necessary to make it Paper Mario. On the other hand the SPM style was a little too 'easy' if you know what I mean. I guess I like the challenge RPG brought with it as opposed to being able to run away in SPM
I reaaaalllyyyy want a Paper Mario game for the Wii U. The Thousand Year Door has the second place on my personal best games ever list.
Just copy TTYD and improve upon it, and it's golden. If it's like Super or Sticker, I'll seriously cry. I bought Super and played it for like an hour, wondering the whole time when the real battle system would come into effect. Then I realized it wouldn't, and that was it for SPM.
I agree with the poster above. Give me multiple partners that allow for different strategies in turn-based battle (which M+L doesn't do). I didn't even finish sticker star because it simply did not feel like an rpg...When a winning strategy in an rpg is to AVOID as many battles as possible, something isn't right. Essentially, I want Nintendo to make an RPG that captures the same magic as Child of Light. They haven't done that with mario since TTYD.

I've never played Super Paper Mario, but Sticker Star was alright. Not awesome, but not bad either. TTYD on the other hand is a masterpiece. I hope they create a new Paper Mario in its style

I agree, the RPG turn-based really made it interesting, but I wouldn't ditch SPM so quickly. Although it's not turn-based, the story is still pretty good and the worlds are interesting. There's even a Game Over realm where characters go to when the game is over, very nice to see. Still, the turn-based system is an enjoyable one and I would love to see it in the new Paper Mario.
I personally really liked Super Paper Mario. It's rare that I consider a game worth my time, if it's primary gameplay is TBS. Maybe Paper Mario could adopt something akin to the Tales style where the combat is still action-based, but the monsters aren't in the underworld and are often unavoidable. Say what you will about it, but I had absolutely no interest in Paper Mario until SPM, and I still have no plans to even try the original two.

As much of a mixed opinion SPM gets, most people agree that SPM at least had some of the best writing in the series. It'd definitely not something that should totally fall into obscurity, even if the series stays turn based.

Agreed, the story was wel written and for me the main thing carrying the game, alongside the fact that you needed Luigi, Peach and Bowser to get through the entire game, instead of choosing your favourite and run with him/her. It's an interesting game atleast and they should bring back Count Bleck and his cronies, they were pretty original and cool thugs too.
Super was Linear and kinda boring at times
Sticker is worse the whole thing felt so gimmicky
My favorite game overall is Paper Mario (n64) it felt so huge and was actually fun the whole time though
If people are so worried about paper marios gameplay being turnbased why not a mix of both? A lot of recent RPGs take out the OMG NOT ANOTHER ECOUNTER part by making battles more avoidable maybe in the next game if Mario is a higher level than the enemy he could just jump on them to kill them however same and higher level enemy's would be a encounter (Bosses could not count obviously)

64 and TTYD had badges that let you do that effect and even Sticker Star did that when you got stronger first strikes by collecting HP-Up Hearts. Instant-KO-ing weaker enemies isn't new to Paper Mario.

Yeah indeed, you had that badge. Also something I really liked about PM, collecting those rare badges with cool effects.
