Only a slight increase in sales but nothing significant

@Unca_Lz Mario Kart 8 won't have a significant presence in sales? Lol you're wrong. That's ONE game I KNOW will sell like crazy.

I think it will definitely be the biggest seller for wii u, but I can't see even MK8 selling enough to actually turn around the fortunes of the wii u, I think the chance of wii u being a significant force this gen is about as likely as getting hit by an asteroid with a winning lottery ticket attached to it.

It really doesn't matter though how much Wii U sells, for the gamers.
Nintendo will make the games regardless.
Third parties will not make the games regardless.

@Reala Mario Kart 8 won't change the Wii U fortunes around immediately but the Wii U will gain a great boost from the game. The same goes for Super Smash Bros and even Zelda U. Mario Kart 8 will be the Wii U version of Pokémon X/Y for 3DS.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Just about anything could give the Wii U a boost now. Sales have been pretty stagnant for most of its life.

More Wii Us sold equals more games on Wii U no matter how you look at it.

Ditto. That's just common sense.

Regardless of sales or predictions by Pachter, Nintendo will continue making games. From this point on, the main reason for owning a Wii U is for Nintendo's games and maybe indie games. I really don't expect much more than that...

And why should we? Hasn't it been the case since the Gamecube that you buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games? How many people bought a GCN for RE4 over Melee? How many bought a Wii for Just Dance over Wii Sports or Mario Kart Wii? You all know Pokemon is the reason 2DSs got so popular, in the first place. (At least, you should.) It just seems obvious to me that if you bought a Nintendo console for 3rd party content, you dun goofed.

That's not what the E3 conferences prior to Wii U launch suggested. They showed games from EA, Ubisoft, WB, etc.

Anything Pachter says is either ludicrously obvious, or just ludicrous. The fact that people give him attention is ridiculous, as he makes guesses that most gamers could easily make.

Their handhelds tend to get a wide variety of support, and the Wii got quite a few 3rd party games that were not only high quality but also unique to the system (Muramasa, Red Steel 2, No More Heroes 2, Madworld, Sonic Colors, etc.). And last time I checked, Gamecube got a great number of 3rd party games, even if it wasn't at the same level as the PS2. At least when you look at the multiplats.

Also, I'd argue that the only reason people didn't buy a Gamecube for Resident Evil 4 is that they announced the PS2 version right before the release of the Gamecube version, but that's for another thread.

As for Pachter's prediction, I'm kind of surprised. I was thinking that the PS4 would overturn the Wii U in a few weeks, not an entire month from now. Especially considering the 6 million milestone has been hit.

Best thread ever

@Jazzer94 I didn't call it bad. I said it wasn't the reason you got a Gamecube. Similar to how Wonderful 101 wasn't likely the reason anyone got a Wii U.

@moomoo I agree, but if anything, that's the beginning of Nintendo's little 3rd party problem, isn't it? RE4 was going to be exclusive, and then it wasn't. You also talk about the Wii's 3rd party line up, which, I admit, was also good, but that's by no means what I was saying. I simply stated that it's not why you get a Wii.

@SCAR392 And they were going to have all that support. But WB's gaming division pulled some Activision type stuff without the safety nets Activision is so expert at securing, and EA backed down due to a faulty deal involving Origin. Ubisoft is still there, but it's all multiplat stuff, for the most part. Still not a reason to buy a Wii U.

How was the 3rd party that was there not worth it? They announced CoD Black Ops II, which many people were excited about, regardless of platform. They showed plays on the GamePad for Madden, ZombiU used the touch screen well, Batman had some new features on the GamePad, Tekken Tag 2 was there, etc.

The only one that was really a rehash was Batman and Mass Effect 3. All the rest of the games were new. They showed plenty of 3rd party games at E3. If you bought a Wii U on launch, you were well aware of the 3rd party games.

Quick question, hang on let me put up the flame shield, is MK8 a sure fire turn around for Wii U in sales? I'm just thinking back to Gamecube and it doesn't make it start just flying off store shelves. Is it realistic to say any game will fix this ship for certain? For me it just comes down to hoping for best but nothing is a guarantee as some make it sound.

And they all made games and are now done. It's quite obvious now that 3rd party support has mostly ended.

Mario Kart 8 will sell well. I dunno what kind of immediate impact it will have, but coupled with other big-hitters we will see an increase in Wii U sales this year

3rd parties never explicitly said, "Here's some 7th gen ports as luanch titles. That's all you get.".

3rd parties lead on consumers on Wii U. It's not like people went and bought a Wii U, thinking there wouldn't be 3rd party, at least if they watched E3. Why didn't they start supporting Wii U when it had around 4 million consoles sold, and Xbox One and PS4 had 0? Then looking at the Direct X11 predicament, people have hardly a clue.
