Not that I care about Michael Pachter's opinion much, but his prediction is that in a year, when the other next gen consoles hit, Wii U will no longer receive third party support and Nintendo will become irrelevant. (See above article.)

What do you guys think about this? Agree? Disagree? Why or why not?

I want to know why Pachter seems to hate Nintendo so much. Did Miyamoto kill his father?

He's probably right about third-party support, but no, Nintendo isn't going anywhere.

And he's an analyst with a losing streak, so his strategy is very simple. Keep saying "Nintendo is doomed mofos" until he finally is victorious, or he's dead. Likely the latter.

I could tell you, but it's a secret to everybody.

He also called Call of Duty a 'failure,' and said that Apple will become irrelevant.
Does he want to alienate EVERYBODY?

Everyone is latching onto iOS games now, yet they ignore all the good games and go for the simplistic casual flash shovelware crap like Angry Birds and Doodle Jump.

I hope Nintendo manages to keep third party support this time, that's one of the things I was hoping Nintendo could finally get a handle on. I personally doubt Nintendo is going anywhere either way, they're stubborn like that.

I don't remember the last 'failure' that sold so well.

He also called Call of Duty amazing.

His argument is that Nintendo haven't been able to draw the crowds away from the 360/PS3/PC versions of the game, hence why it fails compared to other versions. And if you read where he calls the franchise a failure, he's right.

In what retrospect? That they could have made even more money? I for one don't think it'd be nearly as successful if people had to pay for online, especially on Xbox where online already requires paid membership.

the more edgy his predictions, the more people report on his every word, thus he looks more relevant than he really is. that'd be my best guess to explain this one.

Sadly, it works. People so much time saying that no one should pay attention to him... after every time they pay attention to him.

He doesn't. You're getting confused because you see Pachter as a school kid having a fanboy war in the playground, but he's an analyst.

It's his job to advice investors on whether they should be buying stock in Nintendo. These people have millions of dollars at stake. What Pachter personally thinks of the console in that context is completely irrelevant.

Is he satisfied with attention if it's in a mocking tone though? I don't think the Nintendo doomsday predictions are necessarily "edgy" though, it's quite overplayed. As is the argument that smartphones will leave handheld gaming systems irrelevant, a vast majority of the population has smartphones these days and yet the handheld systems and games still sell. I would think if he was going for an edgy prediction, he'd claim that Wii U will decimate the PS4 and Nextbox.

I know that he's an analyst and not a fanboy, but his predictions have been completely off. Call of Duty a failure? No. The Vita will beat the 3DS? No. The 3DS/Wii U will doom Nintendo? Thus far, hasn't looked like that although he did get close with the 3DS before a huge bounce back up.

Combine that with some hideously ignorant statements (PS3 is more powerful then PC) and what you've got is basically a laughing stock in the gaming community.

I seem to recall him giving the same attacks on the Wii and that seemed to sell. Show me a time where he's advised investors to buy Nintendo stock. The company has been around for quite some time and he has always seemed to insist it's about to tank.

Wow, that was a terrible prediction. Sure, Pachter does get a lot of publicity, but he really needs to start being a good analyst, or at least mediocre.
