Guy on my nation-wide ebay clone store wanted to exchange Wii U with 8 games (including pikmin 3, windwaker, nsmbu + others) for XBOX 360 250 GB + GTA V and FIFA 14 he asked few people who wanted to exchange their boxes for something else... both refused Wii U by saying (it has no games, games are expensive for last gen graphics, no multiplayer)

I understand reasons for "no 3rd party games and last gen graphics" we talked about it many times on these forums, but what about Online Multiplayer?

Nintendo behaves like ... they have absolutely no plans for Online Multiplayer games???? Online multiplayer is like...standard today. I remember people yelling at Nintendo for New Super Mario Brothers Wii being without Online Multiplayer but now we have

1. Super Mario 3D World (without online multiplayer)
2. New Super Mario Brothers U (without online multiplayer)
3. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (without online multiplayer)
4. Wii Party U (without online multiplayer)

It's like nintendo is living in 90's. They are making OFFLINE console out of Wii U, and now when we don't have 3rd party support we can forget
about online matchmaking. Can anyone imagine how fun it would be to play Nintendo games with other people? I don't (for example) have anyone to play mario games with... and it's kind-a boring.. online multiplayer for me is a MUST.

You're complaining because games that are built for single player / single household experiences aren't online? Online has to make sense to the game, like with Wii Sports Club, Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. for Wii U. We certainly didn't have any online Mario Kart or Smash Bros. in the 90's.

Yeah, most people are ignorant about the Wii U, though. I think the biggest reason for that is lack of advertising on tv. Nintendo thinks that they're making up for it with the internet advertising, but that's really only being seen by gamers and unless you're already a Nintendo fan, seeing an internet ad isn't going to persuade you.

Honestly, I think it's time Nintendo created a mature franchise. The current Nintendo franchises are great for families, but what about the biggest demographic for video games? Young adults. Young adults want "mature" games and until Nintendo starts making games for that demographic they are going to continue go get their butt kicked by playstation and xbox.

So, in short, Nintendo needs to advertise better on tv to reach families and needs to produce "mature" games to reach young adults. Right now, Nintendo is doing neither and the Wii U just got outsold by the xbox1 and ps4 in one week.

All the games you listed are platforms. 3D World, NSMBU, DK:TF excluding Wii Party U which is a party game. Platformers on most consoles and Party games don't have online features in them anyways (excluding the few that do).

I think it's irrelevant to compare those types of games to what other consoles offer. Games that SHOULD have online like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, X(hopefully), Shooters, Racers etc, will have online because they are multi-player focused. I'm not defending them though they are pretty late to the online party and the system could use a lot more online multi-player focused games.

The latest Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are actively going towards more impressive online functionality and X is an open world game where the footage strongly implies online co-op so there is that. Mario Kart is confirmed to have a Miiverse inspired version of Spectator Mode and I believe the ability to have 4 local people and 8 online matches. In the meanwhile, I've personally been enjoying AC's online mode, it's really good and a lot more unique than even what I was expecting (perhaps the perfect example of how to make an online stealth game).

I don't deny that one of those games probably should have had some more online functionality and maybe it's because I'm only sometimes interested in online gaming. But I'd prefer to defend Nintendo to focus on local multiplayer when they are also focusing on more family focused games, both because Nintendo not doing their own thing tends to fail and because they've actively described a genuine non-business reasons for wanting to bring families together in the age of online and technology. Nintendo should be blamed more for not planning the early days of the console better and not being willing to take advantage of the term "timed exclusive content" or the like rather than being blamed for not spending more for things that go towards what "hardcore gamers" want who would mostly not buy those games even if they got exactly what they complained about (looks at Pikmin 3 disappointing sales despite years of the internet begging for Pikmin 3)
