The thing I'm seeing from these generation jumps isn't exactly what you're interacting with, but what you're not interacting with. The use of "fog" has become less and less with each generation, but in-your-face elements have had minor improvements. Much of the "extra power" seems to be used mainly on what is off in the distance.

The games on the next gen systems will look better than current gen. There is no argument there. The problem is deciding if it is a leap, a skip or a hop forward. I will hold my judgement until I get to actually see the games rather that what is likely to be touched up photos or the games running on a high spec PC... as apparently was the case with the xbone.

What puzzles me most however, is how far forward can the developers push the systems. A few weeks back I read an article about two developers claiming that because the specs are so close to PC standard both systems (MS and Sony) will be maxed out straight away because there is really nothing new to learn anymore about them (unlike the Cell in the PS3 which still keep producing better results).

Now if I wanted to find that article to post as a link I wouldn't. I believe it was either retracted for being incorrect or simply because it was bad for business. Maybe gamers don't need to know that the games wouldn't be looking any better each year. I don't know.
Time will tell.

This is the most sensible post of the entire thread, hands down.

@Skywake
I don't it's that people don't see the difference as much as the difference isn't by much, right now.

A) Pics don't nearly do justice for in game graphics... no matter what system.

B) Were looking at the beginning of a new architecture (X86) being used on a new generation of gaming consoles.

With that said, to compare the Wii U to the systems now is sorta redundant given that no examples yet actually can show what these new systems look like when the system is running. Also, you need to factor in the type of TV being used. I have a mid grade LCD TV and my Wii U looks great. It runs at 240 Hertz and is 1080p but my friend has a very nice top grade TV and his Wii U looks stunning. I'm actually jealous lol.

Most game devs know already how to develop for X86 since PC has been using it for a while. Its not hard nowadays for devs to look at a systems specs and know what it can handle. And there will always be new engines that the devs themselves will come up with that will make a game look and run better. So its only natural to say that what your seeing now, it will only improve in the future. Of course games on the last gen look about if not the same as the next gen, this current gen is being pushed to its limits I'd say. The next gen will be able to handle what's out now with no problem.

That's why it's not a war of triangles anymore just like it stopped being a war on sprites and colour depth after the SNES era.

I thought I made my point of what they are doing with next gen hardware with the CoD tech demo for Xbox One and PS4. As I said in my original post on it, it's all in the details and texturing.

Ya, but there are people that will either make a big deal about it or won't and those people always argue.

I'm one of the people not making a big deal out of the little changes that have occurred so far, so it's easy to get criticised by being called blind or ignorant.

Even the Wii U was a step up from 7th gen in basically every case, whether it be textures, framerate, resolution, etc.(although it usually goes unnoticed in comparison). I would assume the PS4 can probably do just as much better, taking that into consideration, but I just don't like the PS4 games.

Why don't you like the Sony games, You seem to haven;t given a real reason other than you are a bit basis against Sony and you seem to talk as all sony games are the same. I mean comparing a vertical slice of demo to a full game hardly seems comparable especially when they seem to do different things from the outset of development.

@SCAR392 Yeah, I wouldn't say it's worth making a big deal about but at least acknowledge the advancements that are happening with the hardware and what that allows devs to do with their software rather than discrediting them and saying there is no difference. These guys put in a lot of hours to give us those improvements.

I already told you. I draw similarities between Sony's IPs and 3rd parties.

Assassin's Creed 4 looks similar enough in gameplay to inFamous for me not to care about the one I need a specific platform(PS4) to own. If I want an FPS game(Killzone), I'll go buy Call of Duty or whatever else. I know Destiny hasn't been announced for Wii U, but even that looks more interesting than Killzone and it's not a 1st party IP.

I don't like the Dual Shock 4, either. It's better than 3, but I'd rather have a 9 axis touchscreen GamePad. There are enhancements to the Dual Shock, but I don't think they're as great as what the GamePad is doing with what I think are better games on Wii U, in the first place.

But that's a pretty dumb reason to judge a game to be honest. Games stand of their own and Assassin's Creed even based off of looks, is not similar to Infamous at all. That seems like a pretty weak realization to write games off completely. Not sure how Call of Duty looks more interesting than Killzone. Killzone looks to be superior not only on a technical level but pure gameplay.

Destiny I sort of agree with. I'm interested in it based on Bungie making my favorite game franchise but they haven't showed anything so far that doesn't look like a more Sci-fi Borderlands. Don't think it will come to WIi U, but I have two beta codes so I'll find out early next year.

You know how people are saying that Xbox One's Ryse will flop? Just look at GameInformer's incredibly negative article about Ryse when they played it. I think PS4's Knack will flop, too. I have nothing against Knack but it doesn't look good at all. Its gonna end up like ZombiU or worse. Man, I wish Infamous: Second Son was a launch title....

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I do plan on getting a PS4 someday :D

The problem with is that I could name at least five or more other news outlets saying that Ryse is at best good as worst average. I feel Knack will be the same way. Also knack has this weird desgin aspect in which the game changes depending on your difficulty level. I think both games will do find just for being a launch title. Ryse is going to stroke the graphics craze in people (Its the best looking game that will be out on either 8th gen system). Knack will sell on its pedigree and Sony getting alot of good will from Gamers. I feel while either might not get a sequel (Ryse probably will) they're launch titles and good for what they are.

ZombiU failed due to being the Dark Souls of Zombie games and that's not that appealing to some tbh. Plus not having online gameplay in a Zombie game seemed like a missed opportunity. It will be interesting to see how dead rising 3 will be done at launch.

Knack impressions seem good and its looks like its going to be good if you like Action Platformers like Crash, Spyro, or Rachent and Clank. Or like how Sessler put it being God of War for a younger crowd.

To be honest I hope it does well just so these types of colorful platformer games can be greenlighted more often.

The truth is the launch games aren't going to be life changing- they aren't graphically that far from the current gen, and there isn't really anything that advances gameplay. Undoubtedly graphics wlll improve, and some will be quite impressive. But the truth is the game that will blow everyone away will either have a fantastic game mechanic a la Wii Sports or when SF 2 came out for the SNES,, or an engrossing story like GTA or Arkham or Zelda. The reason people are looking at Mario 3D U is because its filled with little novel game mechanics. If Microsoft and Sony could consistently equal Ninty away with game mechanics combined with their superior graphics, Nintendo would be gone.

Hasn't happened yet....

Everything I read on Ryse said it's greatly improved from what most of the news outlets played back when Xbox One was first announced.

Is there a Xbox One or PS4 game that could be the equivalent of ZombiU for Wii U? I mean that as ZombiU was a unique experience that you can find else where, not just talking about controls.

I wouldn't say you can't find else where. I mean its just a first person souls game. As per your question

Deep Down on PS4

Rime

I feel whatever Quantic Dream's next game will be something that you won't get on other consoles.

on Xbox

Fable Legends looks to be cool D&D/Gantlet RPG

Quantum Break will blend gaming and TV that impact one another

Plus, besides all that stuff that @Sony_70 put up, it doesn't hurt to diversify your gaming. Every console has exclusive games that are stellar.

I haven't seen anything from Xbox One or PS4 that makes me want them and be willing to pay for their online subscriptions.

EDIT: Especially during the console launch window. Even though Rime and Quantum Break interest me, none of the games @Sony_70 have release date.
