Reggie has made a point of saying that developers simply need to make better games in order to prevent trade-ins.

"We have been very clear. We understand that used games are a way for some consumers to monetize their games. They will buy a game, play it, bring it back to their retailer to get credit for their next purchase. Certainly, that impacts games that are annualized and candidly also impacts games that are maybe undifferentiated much more than [it] impacts Nintendo content. Why is that? Because the replayability of our content is super strong."

"The consumer wants to keep playing Mario Kart. The consumer wants to keep playing New Super Mario Bros. They want to keep playing Pikmin. So we see that the trade-in frequency on Nintendo content is much less than the industry average--much, much less. So for us, we have been able to step back and say that we are not taking any technological means to impact trade-in, and we are confident that if we build great content, then the consumer will not want to trade in our games."

The CEO of 2K pretty much said the same thing a while back.

“Our view about used games has been, as opposed to whining or figuring out ways to punish the consumer for buying used games, we’ve figured out we better delight the consumer,” he said. “Let’s push up our quality, which you’ve seen in our Metacritic scores, and then let’s make sure to give people DLC, often free, three or four weeks out; which is the time you’re at risk for them trading in their game.

Skyward Sword had a lot if replayability? I often find great game to have replayability simply because they're a great game. Although I don't particuarlly feel like replaying Skyward Sword even though it's a great game, due to it's long and go find this, rinse and repeat nature. A lot of the replayability from Nintendo games comes from having fun local multiplayer. Games like Metroid Prime don't have a lot of replayability either. Sorry Reggie, a lot if Nintendo games aren't as replayable as you say they are. (Note: I'm disregarding the just from being a great game alone replayability factor I personally find in games)

Metroid Prime and Skyward Sword are both quite lengthy games. Games that, played "casually" may take a month or more to finish.

The same can't be said for many of the games from publishers than have complained about the used game market. They tend to be throw away action titles with a life span of 4-8 hours.

the idea that single player games aren't replayable just because they are fun single player games is dumb

I completely agree. This is going to sound absurd, but I took about 6 months to finish Skyward Sword. I was playing other stuff a lot, and alternating with my brother, plus I had a lot of homework in those days... and, I've got this strange obsession with secrets, so I spent hours on end hunting down every single secret I could find.

I'd also like to vouch for the replayability of both Skyward Sword and the Metroid Prime games. They all have harder difficulties, which gives you a reason to play them again. Also, nobody is saying that immediately AFTER you finish the game you're going to restart it. Usually, you'd take a few months to a year (or even years) to cool down, and when another game in the series is coming out, you go back and replay the games to satisfy your cravings (when Zelda Wii U is arriving shortly, I'll finally get around to Hero Mode on Skyward Sword, and when a new Metroid is released the same goes for Metroid Prime Trilogy). The thing is, you finish the game, yes, but after, you don't want to trade in your game because you know that ONE DAY, you are going to play it again, since it was simply too good to just forget about and get a 7$ credit for at Gamestop. Or at least I feel this way.

I know. It's so annoying. They think opinions and facts are somehow different, what weirdos.
