I had an interesting dream about the Wii U gamepad the other night, and it was about its control options. In the dream, we had: the face buttons, the touch screen, the motion controls and... mind controls. In my dream, there was a gamepad-centric scrolling shooter game. In other words, the gamepad was held sideways (to make a tall screen), and a scrolling shooter was being played on it. You could move via the face buttons, the touch screen, by tilting the gamepad... or by willing the ship to move in the direction you wanted it to! You would imagine the ship moving in a certain direction, and it would! I proved to people that I was using mind controls by setting the gamepad down, therefore not touching any part of it, and making the ship move. There was also another control option, something like "deep mind control", that was symbolized by a purple circle. I remember not being able to figure out what that was.
Now, that got me thinking. Surely, mind control will be the next big gaming innovation? There have been people working on mind controlled games already, although they do not work very well yet. So my question is: will Nintendo be the ones to create the big step in mind controlled games? they probably won't invent the technology; they also didn't invent motion controls. But what they did was make it innovative. Will they do that with mind control? And if so, what would they name such a console?
. . . and each account could be linked to your electrostatic brain-wave signatures (like fingerprints, but for brains). . . .just power on the console in close enough proximity to the console, and you're logged in.
Also, what in the world would "deep mind control" be?
The symbol for it looked like this:
EDIT: Also, should this "mind controlled Wii U" take advantage of dream-imaging technology? There are scientists that are working on technology that can record your dreams and play them back in HD. I think that would go hand-in-hand with a mind-controlled gaming console.

I assume you meant in proximity to yourself? That could be cool, but what if there were other people in the room? Wouldn't their brainwave signatures confuse it? Or, you could have it beam a specific image (everyone would see something different on the same TV) to each person, so everyone could play something different at the same time. Of course, if you wanted to watch what somebody else was doing, you could just "tune in" to their game. Everyone could have their own screen during multiplayer, no more splitscreen. The possibilities are endless.

I have no doubt Nintendo will be the first for any innovations in gaming hardware, but I think we're still pretty far from this sort of idea. I mean, it definitely has been done (through wearing devices on the user's head), but for anything practically, the costs are way too high for the average person to afford. I am both frightened and excited for the day when we essentially have virtual reality (which this would be a step towards), I do hope I live to see such technology.
I do think it would be amazing to be able to essentially link games to our dreams so we can virtually play it in our sleep. That's 8 hours of gaming every night while my body recharges, and it would be so much better than half of my dreams...
Also, the last week before the U came out, I had dreams about the system almost every night, so this doesn't seem to startling to me.
