I'm probably one of the few that believes the Galaxy games have a great story, and it won't be a story that is right in the player's face, but will be one that they can interpret. Every galaxy potentially could have a story that a player could apply to it based on galaxy naming, design, enemies present and the friendlies. In addition, the Rosalina story is memorable and is a backstory that put her above Princess Peach in terms of my favorite Mario princess. I would agree that Ocarina of Time is much more direct about its story, but overall, I think both games are comparable in terms of how much depth their stories could end up with.
-Metroid Prime 1 and 3
Metroid Prime didn't become all that great until it got motion controls in the Trilogy release, and the only reason why I personally would put that game over Ocarina of Time is because I've beaten it. If I were to beat OoT, I'd probably rank it above Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime 3, at its release, is the Prime Trilogy game I would argue as the overall best, but again it is only because I've beaten it that I would put it above Ocarina of Time.

Yes nearly every Zelda and many other games that followed OOT may have been better but thats missing the point.OOT was the standard bearer, the game that took players into a world they had never experienced before. For anyone who never experienced it at the time or has only played it in the last few years,it wouldn't be so impressive as you would have seen open 3D worlds and better graphics in other games but its because of this title that many of these games are played the way they are.Its ranking reflects the impact it had on gaming at the time and no other game has matched that experience since.I would agree that Majoras Mask and even Wind Waker etc are better games but they had something to build off and improve on,OOT never other than LTTP,it was the first of its kind and therefore the best game of all time.Until another game comes along that takes gaming into a whole new dimension so smoothly as this did then it will remain so IMO,even though Gamerankings says otherwise
Puns aside in my opinion OOT has been dethroned a long time ago. Yes, it was revolutionary for its time. but nowadays games like Skyward Sword and Galaxy games are clearly superior, just to name a few.
Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband â Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World â Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8
Ocarina of Time had an awesome 15 Years, but it is time to give it to someone else, and its not really bad news because Mario Galaxy was practically Perfect.
However it would be cool if Layton had the throne.

I guess it should have been said as 'in relation to its time and what it brought to gaming' then because things are always being improved on over time. If the game had been released in more recent years, I'm sure it would have been even better, although I guess that could be said about many games...
I think what makes OOT "best game ever" to so many (nostalgia side) is that it has held up so well in relation to its age, it set the foundation for the rest of the series while still remaining a blast to play compared to more advanced games. 15 years is ancient in tech years and its impressive for an early game in a series to hold up so well compared to more recent ones. I do find it interesting that as much bashing as Nintendo recieves for being kiddie and behind the times its their games that usually hold up the best.
I aslo find it sorta funny that its a Zelda game thats considered the greatest game of all time what with the whole hero of time thing and time playing such a big role in the series.
yeah I'm not one to understate OOT's importance to the series, if not gaming in general. Like...I was THERE when it was cool and everything blew my mind about the game so I get it. I don't think anyone doesn't agree with that...whose opinion should ever be taken seriously by anyone at the very least. I'm just ultimately separating that from what I enjoyed the most and how other games (although mainly Zelda, because we're not in a world awesome enough to have constant awesome Zelda ripoffs) took that foundation and made better games.
OoT was like an oasis in the desert. Zelda was a great game that easily made the leap to 3D back in a time when that seemed impossible, and in turn created a blueprint for lesser developers. Not many games have accomplished that.
Think I would put majora as my personal number 1, not sure I'd have a Mario platform game in my top 100 list never mind number 1, Paper Mario however now that'd be a different story.
