For the time, it was impressive, but if it has to be superior in every way, there's no exceptions.

I agree with the statement that there isn't really a fair way of calling something "the best game ever" outside of what critical reception is. I've met those who love COD to death, ranking it above all others. Obviously other people choose other titles to rank as king. Some dislike Zelda games. Someone could say Ninjabread Man a maste- No wait.

I honestly am not having a nostalgia attack. There were much more superior mario games. The windwaker arguement is probably not a good idea to start with me, as I dislike it, and it's art style immensly. But I agree with you on the fact that it's subjective for each individual, and opinions will differ. :3
But this is a silly arguement, and I'm bored with it so, as LZ would say, Bleh.

So why is everyone always referring to OOT when talking about great Zelda games, but never some of the better games like Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword? they deserve recognition after all. To be honest i'm not sure whether we are talking only about gameplay mechanics, story or both. I've played OOT and TP and in recent memory I actually enjoyed TP's story more so than OOT. I'm also taking in to account I hold no nostalgia bias, as I never owned a N64 as a kid and I only completed it with the remake, although I did already own the 64 version on my Wii's VC.
I know it's pretty easy for people to claim these games are the best, it's like me saying that Pokemon Blue is the best game in the entire series because I grew up with it, but that doesn't necessarily make it true.

A short list of games made after OOT that are better than OOT (this is ignoring anything other than "I played this game"):

-Pokemon Silver/Gold and the remake
-Dragon Quest Monsters 2
-Okami
-Beyond Good and Evil
-THPS4
-SSX3
-Halos 1 and 2
-Cave Story
-Final Fantasy IX (ok technically I only played a bit of it, but I've seen so much of the game via the internet and have no reason to believe I wouldn't love it)
-Xenoblade Chronicles
-Muramasa
-Little King's Story
-World of Goo
-Donkey Kong Country Returns
-Rhythm Heaven DS and Wii
-Klonoa
-Crimson Skies: Road to Revenge (or whatever it was called, awesome game)

Opinions will be opinions, but OOT will ALWAYS be a landmark in gaming. I can't say the same for Retro Game Challenge or Rhythm Heaven (both of which I adored). It may not be the best game in the world, but you have to give it some credit.

I've never liked the "best game ever" thing either. Best game in a series is arguable but any more is comparing apples to oranges. OOT held up great and is still really fun but should it really still be considered the best game ever in the current industry even compared to more advanced games in the series? I personally liked TP more but that doesn't mean it should be the new best game ever and Zelda isn't even my favorite series.

Who cares! This is only based on opinion anyway so if you want to think OoT is still the best game of all time you still can. To be honest someone can say the Tingle game is the best game ever because it is a opinion after all.

The lack of multiplayer is completely unforgivable.

And that is why you shouldn't base a placement off of story, especially when one series is known for story and the other not, yet they both pack a good story in.

Firstly, how would multiplayer in a Zelda game work? It's not an MMO.

I was pointing out how stupid the idea that "Mario doesn't deserve that spot because it has a crappy story" is. Not all aspects need to be "perfect" or even "existent" in this case. Plus, SMG was the only Mario title to have an actual story.

@rayword45 I would quit while you're ahead dude, Mario games do have stories, just it's that peach is always kidnapped because that's the way Mario games play. If you read the backstory for the original SMB you'd know things like bowser turning all the inhabitants of the mushroom kingdom into bricks after taking over or how SMB2 takes place in marios subconcience sleep and is all a dream. Also there are spin off games like the Super Mario Land series, while playing much like console marios of the 8 bit gen, revolve around Mario land, daisy and wario, who was the main antagonist of SML2. Maybe you shouldn't accuse Mario games for always being 'samey' or without a plot, hint: go to a Mario wiki and do your own research.

Alright, I'll rephrase it, when was the last time Mario had a good story besides SMG? If the story doesn't make a difference in how you enjoy the game it doesn't matter much.

Both are great, so I really don't care which has the higher score or anything.
If you ask me, Galaxy 2 is better than Galaxy 1 and Wind Waker and Skyward Sword are better than Ocarina of Time anyway.

Wanted to say this, but didn't know what to say, so...yeah...I say Skyward Sword is the greatest game of all time. Smash Bros. Brawl...or Tri, I dunno. Whatever.

I was about to say "multiplayer in a Zelda game, are you nuts?" but then I remembered three little words:

Four
Swords
Adventure.

I just think its funny that everyone is always knocking Nintendo and dismissing just about anything they do. However, this ranking service that supposedly rates the greatest games of all time has Nintendo owning the top 3 spots, and two of them happen to be Wii games which they have really been hating on.

I thought skyward sword was good at best. Twilight princess, however, I would have to say that was a much better game then OoT. Although I still love OoT.
