Lemme simplify all of this mess. The "best" game of all time is an opinion, not a fact. Just because a lot of people agree on a "best" game does not necessarily make it the greatest. Every person has their own preferences in games. Just pick your own and be happy.

Also, Ocarina may not be the "Best" in my opinion, but without it we probably wouldn't have a bunch of other great games. So Ocarina is still great on its own.

So Galaxy is better than OOT by 0.01%? No, just no, they can share the throne and split the trophy but it should take more than a measly 0.01% to dethrone the greatest game of all time.

Don't get me wrong SMG was the most fun I've had with a Mario game since SM64 (not counting NSMB wii multiplayer) but there should be a bigger gap than that. OOT is a great game but I think its a bit overrated myself due to so much hype and over exposure, its as bad as FF7 in that regard. Its to the point theres no point in any top title countdown it qualifies for since it always ends up #1, even against other Zelda games.

You guys do realize that "best" in this context is referring to critical reception, right? If we're to judge that by review score, then it's an undeniable fact, .01% or not.

How would it have changed since 2007 (or 2009 as that seems to be the most recent Galaxy score on there)? Was a lower Galaxy score removed or something? I've never really looked at GameRankings before (more of a Metacritic guy).

But if it's referred to as the best game of all time, it should have a good story.

I played through OoT for the first time on the 3ds. there was no nostalgia effect but i still absoloutly loved this game. it is not dated and it aged phenomenaly. but my favorite zelda game is skyward sword

Sure, it has the generic "save the princess" shit we've all come to know and ignore, but behind that there's a lot about Rosalina's Storybook, enough to the point where some considered more a game about Rosalina then Mario.

Seriously though, it's peoples opinion's but back in the day oot blew people, it brought new meaning to gaming unlike mario galaxy, sure mario galaxy brought some new features by shaking you're wii mote to do a move but it was not like in the day how you went from a 2d game to a 3d game (like the first time everyone reacted to the 3ds 3d because it was so epic) meaning mario galaxy was pretty much same like any other 3d mario game, plus oot was a game with really good graphics and story in the day while mario had average graphic to day plus a over used theme.
Since oot seems more fun then mario galaxy (my opinion) and made a change in gaming, that deserves the "throne" to me.

This is games, not a movie or book. I'm not saying an amazing game can't have a great story, but it's not really a standard that an amazing game should have a great story.

But the best game infers that it is the pinnacle of all games, (I honestly disagree with the concept of a universal best game), and therefore, is superior in all aspects.

Then OOT3D shouldn't be king for the sole fact that the graphics and audio quality are complete crap today. Not to mention the game mechanics have been improved in later Zelda games. The lack of multiplayer is completely unforgivable.

And that is why you shouldn't base a placement off of story, especially when one series is known for story and the other not, yet they both pack a good story in.

I'm not going to respond to this, because I can see that this probably won't end well.

It's just a remake of the game so people can have it on the go and remember the memories of this game from back then, don't be so harsh

I meant the original OOT. OOT3D isn't part of the argument lol, I'm just waiting for my copy off eBay so anxiously that I keep mistakenly referring to it.

Which is why the argument is redundant. The age is the obvious reason for graphical/audio quality.

You do need to take into account the period of time it was released in. Things such as graphics, and audio quality, were incredible at the time. In 10 years, SMG will be described as having horrible graphics and audio. Oot had excellence for it's time in graphics, numerous consoles had vastly superior graphics to the wii and Smg. I don't think OOT the best game ever, but it's up there.
