@Tasuki
That's one reason I'm so happy about this. A Super Mario at launch of a Nintendo console is how it should be. Yet, it wasn't done for GameCube or Wii, and not a Super Mario Bros. since SNES. This definitely evokes happy memories of getting SMW with the SNES (my first NES came with Duck Hunt & Gyromite instead of SMB).
I think my reaction is one thing Nintendo is gunning for from long-time gamers. The psychology of Mario at launch, and how it was the beginning of great things for their respective systems! It's a magical thing absent from the aforementioned GameCube & Wii launches (though Wii had Mario games on VC from day one, I think). NSMBU at launch is one sign to me that Nintendo is going back after the "core gamers", but so many of the other games announced for Wii U contradicted that, so I don't know.
All I do know is I'll be marking my calendar off every day and being my OCD best/worst while waiting for Wii U/NSMBU! This'll be right up there with my more painful waits for games, like from my childhood.
@NintyFan
I was watching the trailer yesterday and did notice blue Baby Yoshi gulping down (I think) a Goomba. Good Yoshi! Eating Goombas & Koopa Troopas is nourishing, and makes Yoshis big and strong!
All the SMW references in this makes me want it really bad, but it's the only Wii U game I'm interested in, so I'll probably wait until there's more games that I want.
Baby Yoshis were enough to get me pumped. Then I remembered NSMBW and realized they'll probably be in all of three levels.
However, I still think it looks great. In an interview with IGN, they mentioned that the map is inspired by SMW's seamless map, so I'm hoping that means it is an interconnected map, too, and not separate maps like NSMBW/SMB3. I also hope they have bandaged hills.
Really the selling point for me is Boost Mode. My friends and I like to turn NSMBW into a competitive game by throwing everyone into pits and sabotaging jump attempts so that only one of us makes it to the end. Using boost mode to place blocks in their paths sounds just as fun, if not its intended purpose.
Also, in the same interview, they said if you do something really good, like a fast, deathless run through a hard level, it'll prompt you with Miiverse to brag about it, so all your friends will see what you did and have to deal with your gloating until they've accomplished it, too. Miiverse is the best thing about this system. I think it'll make single-player games feel like multiplayer games, which is really what I need to get back into single-player stuff like I used to be.
@Adam
I'm worried now that Yoshis will be in a limited number of levels, because I watched people playing the three demo levels on a YouTube video, and I only remember seeing the inflating Yoshi on that one sky level. Yoshi was available for all levels except haunted houses and castles on SMW. But, it's not out yet and those were just demos. It will be a disappointment if they take the NSMBWii approach and just give Yoshis a guest appearance.

I'm definitely anticipating NSMBU more. Sill, I think NSMB 2 has a lot of potential too, and I'm interested in seeing how the coin focus changes the game play. They are trying to mix it up. One thing about NSMB 2, though, I don't see a huge improvement in the graphics from the original NSMB. I find that odd.

I'm going to guess that they don't grow and are only in certain levels. They seem to have abilities that are at least as useful as other power-ups and adult Yoshis, so having them in every level might be overkill, and growing them to adulthood might not even be desirable.
Way too early to tell. Just my thoughts based on the little we've seen so far.
Thanks for the great video showing the on-floor demo levels! So beautiful (but I see they kept the "bop bop" type music, eye roll). But that BLEEP playing threw the baby Yoshi over a cliff just to get one of the big coins! What kind of monster does such a thing???

This game looks awesome. It will probably be the best New Super Mario game yet. Maybe the best 2D Mario game ever.

The more videos I've seen of it the more I want it. The Boost Mode didn't leave much of an impression on me at first until I watched the developers go into more depth about it.

I miss the frog suit. They should put in more power-ups that aren't extremely useful but are just goofy. I like trying to beat the flying ships with the frog suit.
I'm just really happy about the flying squirrel suit. I want more quirky animal suits. How about a platypus suit to aid in swimming?

I don't know about always just animal suits. The Hammer Bros suit in 3D Land was pretty good and so was Cloud Mario in Galaxy 2. Hell, Ice Mario was probably the best suit in Super Mario Galaxy and was definitely better than Bee Mario. Propeller Mario wasn't a horrible suit but even if it was let's not to too far and say that the Animal Suits are always the best ones.
Oh, and Spring Mario was orders of magnitude worse than propeller Mario. If there was a vs play mode like the one in New SMB on the DS the Spring Mario suit would be the only powerup I would avoid.
