Topic: No orange light activity

Grabbed the update and turned auto updating on. Now I know there's at least one update to Zen Pinball 2 that I need, but the standby light hasn't gone orange yet and the WiiU has been off for a while.

Wonder how long it'll take to find and download updates?

My light went orange the moment I powered my Wii U off, and then it went red after about a minute, so I assume it found no updates for my system. If your light never went orange at all, maybe the change didn't take effect.

I don't think it works quite like that - as far as I'm aware from the way Nintendo's worded its press releases, once the system's off, it's off and it won't download or install updates. If it's started downloading updates and then you turn it off, however, it'll continue to download and install everything in standby mode.

Far as I'm aware, anyway. Could be completely wrong.

I don't think it works like that. The light has to turn orange instead of red once you press the power button.

If the system is off, it's off. Which means it can't do anything. So waiting is pointless. The system has to notice the update material when it's on to prepare for instal when you later turn it off.

So that probably means either it didn't have enough time to notice the update for Zen Pinball 2 was available, or it finished downloading it in the background before the power was turned off?

I assumed that the WiiU could check for any updates when you put the machine into standby. Seems weird if you have to check manually for updates then switch off.

I might be wrong obviously. Just read it like that but there certainly hasn't been any orange light on since I updated so.

Well, my light went orange for a minute even though I didn't start downloading anything, so maybe it did find a small update for one of my games that I haven't played in a while.

Why don't you try launching Zen Pinball 2 and see whether the update has been installed in the background already or not?

The update to ZP2 started when I selected the icon. I then chose to start software and switched off. Light eventually went orange. Still seems odd to me that auto update really means manual check first.

Just put the WiiU back on and it had updated ZP2. Then I put it off. Then the light went orange for a few seconds then to red. Seems like it was checking for updates then. Wonder if it needs you to do one manual update to get it going lol.

But in that case, if there was a system update, wouldn't that mean that it will download and install while it's in standby?

@Beta yep that's what I understood it to do, in that system or game updates would download and install automatically whilst in standby. As I mentioned above it never found the ZP2 update until I manually started the game. Will monitor the situation.

No worries about invading thread. More conversation the better!

But what if I don't want to install it now? I mean, the electricity might just go off or something during the installation and the system would brick. I would want to install a system update only when I am at least sure that electricity is stable.
And thanks, I appreciate it ^_^
