Topic: No Controllers for Wii Games? (Nintendo Stopped selling Classic and Pro)

I have a Wii U. But there are some Wii games that I wanted to get for it. NBA Jam 2010 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Both are 4 player local co-op. That is why I bought them.
I have 4 wii remotes with nun chucks. But, for both games, it would be nice to use a regular style controller instead of a remote style one.
But, there are no more official controllers sold by nintendo that will work with wii games.
They discontinued the classic controller and the classic pro controller.

Yes, I can buy third party ones for cheap. But, every third party controller has a crap Dpad. All of them. Unacceptable. Only Nintendo brand controllers have quality made dpads. Yes, i will be using the analog stick most of the time, but I want a quality dpad as well.

I understand they came out with the new Wii U Pro Controller. And I just got one today. And it is great. But it doesn't work for Wii games.

To me, the most valuable controller for the Wii U is the Wii Classic Pro Controller. Because it works for Wii games AND most Wii U games.

One more gripe...the Wii U Pro Controller only comes with a usb cable....no actual charger to plug in. You have to plug it into the Wii U. Which is fine, EXCEPT...the Wii U has to remain on. Horrible idea. Who didn't think that through? The Wii U does all sorts of things when i power it down...like download updates, etc, etc. It should be able to charge a usb controller.

/gripe.

Not sure about NBA Jam, but MUA only allows the Wiimote+Nunchuk set up, which is kind of a shame. It's a better game on other consoles for that reason.

The official Classic Controller Pros are still produced in Japan. You can import them for about the same price or even cheaper. Try sites like yesasia, play-asia, or nippon-yasan. They all ship worldwide. I just bought a couple off of yesasia for $30 each.

I'm charging my Wii U Pro Controller right now with a powered USB hub. It also charges my 3DS, Vita, headset, and phone. They're not too expensive and very handy. The Pro Controller will work for hundreds of hours between charges anyway, so it's really not a big deal.

The only official "Classic Controllers" that Nintendo are currently selling, at least in Australia, are the new Mario, Peach and Yoshi themed controllers that are modelled after the GameCube controllers (they are not however, compatible with the GameCube or the GameCube adapter for Wii U and must be connected to a Wii Remote). These are fully compatible with the Wii and with many Wii U games as well. In Western markets, the Classic Controller and the Classic Controller Pro have been long discontinued.

It's kind of hilarious. The Classic Controllers were near worthless during most of the Wii's life, as the system was compatible with the Gamecube controllers (which Nintendo sold through 2011), which offered a direct wired connection, better button layout, more ergonomic design, and rumble.

Now, when Classic Controllers would actually have value, given the Wii U's incompatibility with Gamecube controllers for Wii games, Nintendo goes and discontinues them.

EDIT: Aside from the Brawl comment (I get that different people like different Smash games, whichever floats your boat), I agree with @Skywake below (wow, that's a rarity). The Wii Remote+Nunchuck are also awesome in that you can rest both arms separately across the arm rests of a chair.

The vast, vast majority of games on the Wii or any console ever made either come with the controller you need or work with the gear that's in the standard box. For the Wii that was just the WiiMote + Nunchuck and then latter Wii Motion+. So if you have those you should be able to play just about everything. The exception being N64 and SNES VC games. The only game I ever really needed the CC for outside of the VC was Smash Bros... and the new one is 100x better than Brawl was anyway. So you're not missing out on much IMO. And the Pro Controllers are so much better you can understand why they don't sell the CC anymore.

As for USB charging well everything charges via USB these days and most of your home theatre gear has a spare USB port. For my Pro Controllers there's one right on my TV which is always on if they ever went flat for long enough that it was actually a problem. Infact I kinda hate the fact that my 3DS came with an AC adapter rather than a USB cable because now unless I go and bother to get a third party cable I have to have the cable plugged into the wall. Which is a pain if it goes flat and you don't have the wall plug handy. If it was a standard USB thing or even a proprietary cable that was USB rather than AC? I'd carry the thing with me, I could even carry a small battery pack.

.......... with all that said, I always regret that I blew my points on Club Nintendo just before the SNES CC came up. Then it was gone well before I could save them up again.

How? Sony's generations have had extreme overlap and I think it has worked very well for them. The PS2 wasn't discontinued until 2012. Nintendo barely even supported the Wii in 2012, let alone the Gamecube.

I have the Wii-U Pro controller, and while I find it more ergonomic than the Wii CC / CC Pro (especially the thumbsticks being in a higher position), it's also more expensive and doesn't work with Wii. Pity really and the new Hori & PDP pads, while great for playing Smash and N64 Wii VC, the Game Cube button layout is IMO terrible for SNES VC.

Just buy a used CC Pro. They are still cheap enough.

That's not necessary. It can charge from pretty much anything that has an USB port and still have connectivity with the Wii U system. I have mine plugged into my PC while browsing the eShop right now.

If Nintendo was smart, they would be selling digital Wii games on the eshop. Instead, I have to buy all my Wii games used, so Nintendo doesn't get any cut of the sale.

Super simple fix:

  • Start selling digital Wii Games on eshop (so people have an option to buy them from someplace other than a used game shop)
  • Make Wii U Pro Controller compatible with Wii games
  • Get a developer to release an updated version of Super Tecmo Bowl (greatest football game ever made)
  • Get a developer to release an updated version of gauntlet

you're welcome Nintendo, I just put you back on top again...

Can you charge the Wii pro Controller with the amazon kindle squares
http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/635803519_6/EMS-free-ship-...

or the Iphone squares?

I have both of those, but I'm not sure if they will give off too much voltage or wattage or whatever in the world and damage the wii U pro controller.

amazon has the japanese ones right now for $30 (black) or $27 (white). I got a white one some months ago and they work with any system so you don't have to worry.. the buttons also are labeled in English so besides the packaging there's no difference between these and the others.

everything's good and it'll be that way forever!

This won't work. Wii mode only has access to 256/512Mb of system memory. Digital Wii games would be unloadable in Wii mode because file size is too big to store in system memory. Wii shop is still accessible under Wii mode though few people use it. Lots of VC games otherwise unobtainable on Wii-U as well.

Aside from Mario All Stars, Xenoblade, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and a handful of others, most Wii games are dirt cheap now. Wii is dead and the used games market is saturated. People can still legally enjoy the smorgasboard of secondhand games that was the Wii. Nintendo also still sells many of the Nintendo Selects titles for $20 new and you can still earn Club Nintendo points from them as well. Based on my own experience, CN points codes when found in a used game case have a 90% likelihood of being unredeemed.

And before anyone butts in, yes I know pirates have hacked it to load Wii and Game Cube ISOs off an external drive or SD card. Wii is already wide open to hackers. Enabling some unsecure back door method to download and play Wii games officially would only make it easier for pirates to steal stuff. It's better that Nintendo not touch that can of worms.

You can buy used CCP or Classic Controllers used at used game stores like Game Stop and they are usually pretty cheap.

Or new ones. Great substitute for the Smash Bros Game Cube USB dongle.

Ironic, but my local Gamestops seem to be drastically downsizing their selection of uses Wii titles. They are literally relegated to a single small shelf. Good thing I've got most of the Wii games I want already, although the stock at my local Game-X-Change stock goes all the way back to pre-NES and Atari days.

I downloaded Super Mario Galaxy 2 on day one, even though I own the original and can just grab the disc whenever. Glad to see they pulled it off. Sometimes being proven wrong is a good thing!

It's definitely good. Personally I don't think it's worth it re-buying them unless it actually adds something. For games that I want to revisit that supported the CC and now have proper off-TV play? Those ones I'll seriously consider.... but out of my collection that's only Tatsunoku vs Capcom. Outside of that I will probably just use the service to grab games I didn't originally get. Metroid Prime Trillogy, Xenoblade, Excitebots which never came out here, Sin and Punishment. That sort of thing.
