I know what you mean it makes me mad as well, and what's worse is people call us "fanboys" for saying that it makes us mad
That's because it does make you fanboys.
"Oh noes! Some people with no impact on my life somewhere in the world are talking down about something that i like! Oh noes!"
Who cares? What difference does it make?

IMO A fanboy is a person who is completely loyal to a company(like Nintendo) recently though, it's come to mean someone who's stubborn about their company, and doesn't like that company's competitors. I call myself a fanboy, as I love Nintendo, hate PS, and think Xbox is ok. But don't we have a topic for that stuff?
@3Dash - We did. I created it. But it was shut done when some of the users began complaining about another user. Oh well.
As for Nintendo's future, I think it will do just fine. I'm really enjoying Wii U and believe this console has a lot of potential.
I foresee what you'll do there.

There is nothing wrong with not being bothered about someone disliking something you like. I would argue it makes life easier, sinse you don't have to get mad everytime someone goes against a video game you like, you can just ignore them. You don't always have to defend something like this, as long as you feel what you feel about the thing you like, that's what is important. Sure you can defend something and there is really not to much wrong with it as long as it is peacefully done but you don't have to.
(Of course, if someone says something like "i don't like your family i think they are ugly" then you have every right to defend.)
In an ideal world what would be great is one big console that every developer works on but it will never happen obviously
That's called a monopoly and isn't really what we want. Without competition between first party companies, they could get away charging way more for a system because consumers have no alternatives. Plus there is no reason for innovation without competition, the industry would die. I understand what you're saying, ideally we could have one affordable system that developers would innovate with, but sadly it could never work in reality.
As for the negativity, often when there's something new, the media is quicker to bash it than praise it. They're called critics for a reason. Maybe you haven't noticed it as much with the Vita because it's not something that bothered you. I've heard positivity and negativity for every system, including the Wii U, but complaints are always louder than praise. Also keep in mind that Nintendo is the least afraid to break the norm. Other first party companies tend to make "safe" choices, simply upping graphics and power while only using new ideas other companies have proven works. The innovations they do are gradual. Nintendo makes big innovations and people are often afraid of change. The Wii U is a big change. Be patient, people will adjust to it in time.
