Topic: Nintendo titles vs. eShop indies vs. VC

By looking at the total sales for this past week on eShop, I want to ask something that I've been puzzled by for a long time: Why are VC preferred compared to newer games?

At #2 on the chart, there's a retail release that appears as download-only on the Wii U.
At #5, there's a Nintendo retail release.
At #6 and #11, there are 2 Nintendo remix titles based on old VC titles.
At #14 and #15, there are 2 indie titles (one new release and one old).
At #20, there's a Nintendo download-only release.

All the rest are VC titles. A week earlier, a pretty good new indie release made an occasional visit to the top 20, but doesn't appear on the list for this week. I don't get it.

Here's the current list:

1. Super Metroid
2. Child of Light
3. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Super Mario World
5. Zelda: Wind Waker HD
6. NES Remix 2
7. Wario Land 4
8. Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3
9. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
10. Zelda: A Link to the Past
11. NES Remix
12. Metroid Fusion
13. EarthBound
14. Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails
15. Trine 2: Director’s Cut
17. Golden Sun
18. Super Mario Bros.
19. Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
20. Art Academy: SketchPad

VC are generally cheaper and come with the added benefit of nostalgia

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Nostalgia is strong with Nintendo Wii U owners. Just biding our time until Mario Kart 8 comes out, besides what has really come out that people should be downloading instead? VC titles have staying power whereas newer titles are a mere flash in the pan.

All i know is that whenever i finally move all my Wii stuff to my Wii U i'll be upgrading a lot of my VC games to enjoy them in 60Hz mode. If it wasn't for this i probably would be interested in doing that at all.

And iOS has (With controller support) - see mifigames .com

Soul Calibur
Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV
Sonic CD
Shantae: Risky’s Revenge
Sonic 2
Metal Slug 3
R-Type 2
Double Dragon Trilogy (All 3 Arcade games)
Namco Arcade
Lego Star Wars : Complete
Tomb Raider
GTA : San Andreas
Sonic Racing Transformed (Think you have to pay about £10 to make it normal but it is 60fps).
Lego : Lord of the Rings

The Indie's it has are actually good :

Limbo
Terraria
Bastion
Riptide GP2 (Bit like Waverace).

(And if they just do the rest even only publishers that have done one already then there will be loads more).

Capcom has Megman 2 / Megaman X / Most of the Good Arcade games like SF2 Hyper Fighting / Ghouls n Ghosts / Super Ghouls n Ghosts (No sprite flicker or slowdown). If they get on board then it will be much sooner I will go for it. I have no desire to play junk SNES versions again. There is also quite a lot of Megadrive stuff Sega has on there.

Well the Wii U release schedule is a barren wasteland with a few beautiful flowers dotted about it. That's the main reason.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

It's VC's by Nintendo. Which are among the best games ever created and available only on Nintendo's consoles. So they win.

@unrandomsam Just like how you randomly decided to list your favorite indie games you've ever played on my thread of upcoming eShop games fir no reason, i fail to see your point here as you just listed games available on iOS.

They are on iOS and support physical controls so they are now the competition. (The quality on Nintendo systems is extremely poor by comparison - Maybe the SNES none ported stuff holds up. But without them releasing Gamecube VC - iOS wins simple as that).

The indies are not my absolute favourites either just ones that are actually good. (And support the physical controls).

And I have just bought a Wii U (Normally people are biased towards stuff they have bought recently but that cannot be the case here).

Since you seem to like trying new games, try Scram Kitty. It's a fantastic game retro-style game, but you need practice to master it.

It's not that all games or that list are new, so how about any old retail game other than Wind Waker?

Or a new indie:
Scram Kitty - if you want a really unique, good and challenging arcade game that is very different to Mario/Donkey Kong/Rayman.
Stick it to the Man! - if you want a hilarious story in a non-Nintendo universe (and haven't played it on any other platform).

Or some of the old indies:
Trine 2, Runner 2, Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition, Star Wars Pinball

Which only goes so far, and is part of the problem. I've been playing Nintendo games since I was able to walk (one of my earliest memories is receiving an NES for Christmas and playing Super Mario Bros.). But with the current system, my two favorite titles for the system are both 3rd party, and my least favorite game so far that I own is Super Mario 3D World, which is actually a good game in its own right....but it's just more of the same.
