Currently 35 games on sale in the NA Wii U eShop (which is why Wii U forum seemed a good place to put this) from Capcom, Little Orbit, Shin'en among others, but none from Nintendo as much as I can tell. Next Thursday on Christmas they are releasing Duck Hunt - a 30 year old game, THIRTY YEARS OLD - for $4.99. I know they spent a few $ updating it, but they could probably sell a million copies at $1 and make $1 million and make a lot of people happy. Maybe they sell 500k at $5 and more than double their income, but hasn't Duck Hunt more than paid for itself by now?

Nintendo has given me a lot this year - WW HD for free w/ MK8, Game and Wario for free for Club Nintendo Platinum - but they don't seem to be in a giving mood for Christmas (the fact that they are even updating ON Christmas rather than a day before or after seems wrong to me). They are also taking away the DDP a week later. Bah humbug.

I also think its weird the only free theme on 3DS is from Sega for Sonic. Nintendo can't give away the free Mario holiday theme for the holidays?

Maybe I'm wrong, guess well see what the sales look like next weekend, but at the moment they seem like the Scrooge of their own systems.

You're complaining that you're not getting anything for free?

Why should you?

Yeah, Nintendo can be tighter than a fish's backside.
The fact we get a free Sega theme is sarcastically applaudable.
After the success of Amiibo, maybe some of that 'warchest' might make it's way into the 'community chest'.
Personally, I've had a good year with freebies from Nintendo, thanks Club Nintendo promotions. Looking foward to 2015.

They're just getting their money back for not releasing their games too early and doing proper QA testing.

I quite like the fact that Nintendo doesn't slash the price of their games. If I can get $5 of enjoyment out of a 30 year old game then why not? If the market can support games at that price then that's the price games should be. Because I know that I'm not necessarily buying more games just because they're cheap on Steam. Infact steam has a big sale on now and I'm thinking things like "Is Arkham Origins worth $5 or should I wait for a better deal?". If anything the way other companies slash their prices so aggressively makes me not want to ever by their games at launch. Nintendo stuff I'm into I'll pretty much always get as soon as its out.

As for Nintendo not treating me decently in terms of deals and freebies. I haven't changed my purchasing decisions once because of the deals and promotions they have other than to maybe go digital rather than retail for Smash. So the stuff they do there as far as I'm concerned is purely them being nice. With that in mind between the Nintendo Network Premium, Club Nintendo and other deals over the last few years just with my 3DS and Wii U stuffs I've gotten:

  • $35 of eShop credit
  • The Wonderful 101
  • A pile of VC games for 30c each
  • A pile of VC games on my 3DS for nothing
  • Soundtracks for Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 3D World and soon Smash Bros
  • A Luigi Diorama
  • Three Zelda posters
  • A Pikmin themed bag

So would I rather that or them slashing the price of their games? I don't know, both seem pretty decent.

How dare Nintendo not put any of their games on sale while other companies are putting their games on sale on Nintendo systems. I mean we only get 10% back on all of our digital purchases for the past 2 years, plus free games through Club Nintendo. Did they really think a free game with Mario Kart 8 and all those Smash Character sales up to the Smash Bros release. WHERE ARE YOUR SPECIAL DEALS NINTENDO!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I think Nintendo has done enough for us this year.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Why are they scrooges? That'd be the case if they sold their VC games at original launch price. They already gave us more than we could ask for, and it's not like they have any obligation to reduce anything at any point.

Or you just need to deal with it.

P.S.: Super Mario 3D World will be reduced from 12/25 to 01/01 (€39.99 / £34.99). There's your Christmas offering.

I was wondering when that happened but turns out it was a promotion I missed out by 2 months (I got 3DS +OoT3D in August 2011)

In general yes,for many years Nintneod has been viewed as the company that never puts it's games on sale. I owned a Wii (pre U) since a week after launch and still use it today, and I think 1 game went on sale on Wiiware/VC in all that time. There just weren't any digital sales on Wii. Now it seems like every game available as a DL has been on sale, yet rarely a Ntinedo game, which I think makes them look bad. When no games were on sale on Wii Nitneod didn't stand out, now that they have a competent eShop and so many other games are on sale I think it becomes more noticeable that they don't offer their own games on sale. And with Christmas being only a few days away, with weeks of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and all the rest, I think it becomes even more noticeable when Nintendo bucks the trend.

So no, I didn't feel like we've been over that, though perhaps my focus was unclear. This wasn't meant to be a generalization about Nitneod's lack of sale prices, but a focus on this holiday season when it seems everybody on their eShop, EXCPET themselves, are in a selling spirit.

I wasn't really complaining about not getting stuff for free, I was complaining about Ntinedo not offering any of their own game sales for the Christmas holiday on the eShop while 35 games from other companies were on sale. A free 3DS theme wouldn't hurt to kickstart the program though.

And if you really don't understand why any company should give someone something for free, go talk to a drug dealer.

Free things are nice to have, but it's never an obligation. Just be grateful for the ones that are willing to do such things. This is the season for merriment and thankfulness. No need to get your panties in a bunch because Nintendo's not giving you the gift you want. That's just greedy.

As for Sales, Ninty should save those for Post-Christmas when people are opening their new Wii U's. That way no one misses out.

In fact you are the one sounding like Scrooge, wanting great games for cheap

No company puts their games on sale if they are selling. They are updating on Xmas Day so people can buy new games in their spanking new Wii U system.

Personally I am grateful for having such a string of high quality Wii U titles this year. The gifts for both MK8 and SSBU were awesome stuff they had no need of doing.

The only thing I resent is the demise of the DDP, but again we knew from the start it would be gone in Dec 31st, 2014.

Bottom line: listen to your kid and buy Pushmo World. A ton of content, plus level creating and sharing for 10 bucks? That is a steal to me.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

I recieved more free stuff from Nintendo than from any other company. I got at least 3 to 4 free retail 3DS games and i think 3 retail WiiU games. That, and their overall pricing is the most fair of them all. Nintendo games never surpass a certain threshold over here. 3DS games for 40, WiiU games for 50€. COmpared to other companies, starting to sell their games for around 80-90€, thats more than welcome.

I really dont care that they dont hold sale extravaganuas like Sony or Steam. Steam is in a league of its own and i had more trouble with Sony than what its worth that i saved with their sale deals to be honest. I bought content that i never recieved, lost content due to server crashes etc. And their customer service has no clue what so ever.

The first thing that comes to mind when i think of Nintendo is the word "Quality" and im more than happy to support a working game that i actually recieve and own afterwards than a game i got for cheap that makes more trouble than it was worth.
Biased, yes, absolutely. Fanboy ? Maybe. Happy and entertained ? definitly yes.
