My bet is that Nintendo will announce it soon. There have been rumors and Nintendo has been pushing the idea of a tablet for some time. Remember that Rabbit in Miiverse holding a tablet?

In another thread, it's been mentioned how Microsoft uses Surface and how Sony, despite Vita, is now pushing PS Now which will be playable on tablets, probably Sony tablets and phones.

It will help the stock enormously.

They will have a dedicated app on the tablet. It will be Android based. Perhaps with some physical buttons. They will probably partner with some other company to manufacture them. Someone big.

How to save nintendo:
Release an underpowered tablet in a super crowded market.

Alternate method:
Waste millions to release a competent tablet in a super crowded market that even less people will try and buy.

Bonus points if they release it with Android, that way people wo don't want to pay more will be able to hack it ease and play their games for free.

See how well Kindle Fire is doing. You can insert new tablets to the markets and make it Android based or semi Android based or whatever you want. There was no greater Piracy, ever, than on the Wii and DS anyway.

the solution is making a super cheap "Game Kid" or "VC Kid"(boy would be pinned as sexist nowadays) for the casual public, so cheap that smartphones and tablets won't have a chance. with old games and games with a development cost(and effort) so low that they can almost give away for free
all this while keeping their 3DS and WiiU but now focusing those on real gamers not kids and parents.

Prediction: Wii U Tablet, a Gamepad that U can take anywhere. $200 Nintendo tablet that access to the Wii U eShop, Miiverse, etc. Enter your Nintendo Network ID to play all your purchased Wii U titles, including retail.

No, the 3DS is fine, no need for a tablet, etc. your just hurting your core business. For the next generation (late 2015 or 2016) if Nintendo somehow ties its console and portable products together, perhaps with a singular piece of hardware, that might be the way to go.

So it became more plausible because of rumors and a rabbit?

I thought the 2DS was their tablet

The Gamepad is pretty close to a tablet, I'ld rather they just add wi-fi to that. I don't buy all that - we need a proprietary connection - stuff. My tablet streams Netflix and Cablevision channels just fine over my wi-fi, the Gamepad shouldn't be able to browse the web or Miiverse in my kitchen or bedroom? Even if they made it NOT work for games, it could still work for Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon, Miiverse, browsing the eShop - the GB DL would still be to the console not the Gamepad - and browsing the web. Maybe even Wii Video Chat - Skpye works perfectly fine over WiFi. I know in Japan a lot of people live in small apartments but here in America a lot of people live in homes. Mine is a simple cape cod house and my Wii U is in the basement but the Gamepad won't work in my living room or kitchen on the first floor and my bedroom is on the 2nd. My router is on the 2nd floor but the laptop, PS3 adn Wii U all work over wifi in the basement.

So before Nintendo works on a tablet I'ld like to see them allow the Gamepad to be used in my entire small house.

Hmm.. Maybe.
A genuine gaming tablet would need more input methods than just buttons on the tablet though. Add a button to a DS stylus at least. Maybe even a pen with two buttons would be best, akin to the nunchuck before it.

On the left, d- pad or analog?
On the right, four buttons snes style
On the stylus, two additional buttons, useful for games that utilize the stylus and buttons at the time same

Just a quick brainstorm. The only good idea is the smart pen

Why release a tablet, for it just to have a Nintendo app.

Save money, develop just the app itself.

Rumors are obviously always true.

And honestly, when has Nintendo ever pushed the idea of having their own tablet? A nameless rabbit character that briefly appears in a minor 3DS app that some people don't even use just happens to whip out his own little tablet for a minute and... that's considered Nintendo pushing the idea of their own tablet? That's not evidence at all. It'd be like saying since there is a desktop computer in Isabelle's office in ACNL, that Nintendo will be making computers soon. It sounds like a joke someone would make about Half-Life 3 being confirmed over some very tiny, little detail.

No offense, but your logic doesn't really make any sense. I can't see Nintendo ever doing this in the near future.

I could see perhaps a tablet app but why would Nintendo go so far as to develop their own tablet just out of the blue (after they said they wouldn't), especially with the Wii U doing as badly as it is.

I can see them making a few apps that pair with their games in some way. I personally quite enjoyed the companion app with Assassin's Creed 4 for example so maybe something like that for the next Zelda or Fire Emblem. Or even maybe something for the next Metroid where you send out troops to perform jobs. I don't see how that would be a bad idea.

Also a MiiVerse app for Android and iOS makes all sorts of sense along with maybe some sort of app for eShop management. Why not let me browse the eShop while at the actual shops? Maybe then I could check out reviews or look at the trailer of a random game I came across. Maybe even download some content that just came out from my phone so I can play it when I get home. Why not? Sounds like a great idea.

A dedicated tablet...... no.... just don't.....

Could be a future thing for a Gamepad2, but for the next home console...maybe unifying portable and home. But not now

Nintendo should stay away from manufacturing its own versions of popular display-tech like TVs, phones, tablets, then retrofitting those concepts to play games their way. People will stick with existing brands if they aren't solely after the gaming capability. What they could do is become compatible with everything that has a display with their own hardware be it a tv, phone, tablet. I'm not sure what shape that hardware would take, but if they can "smart-glass" everything with a display to play games via an inventive and attractive proprietary device that's as easy as buying a new phone/tablet accessory, that might be an ok alternative to making their own self-contained proprietary gaming devices.
