Topic: Nintendo should buy out Capcom

A more realistic move that Nintendo should pull off is to buy out an indie Western dev. I'm thinking CD Projekt Red or Klei. Give them creative freedom, but just have them make Nintendo-exclusive games (which can also come out on PC, ala Scribblenauts).

Imagine games like Witcher on Wii U or Mark of the Ninja on 3DS...

I'd say to do more Platinum Games-like deals, which would probably cost way less than buying the developer.

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

Monster Hunter Tri was originally in development for the Wii but Capcom decided to cheap out and make the game for the Wii due to development costs. In the long run I'd rather see the game being made for the PS4 where it would be easier to Downport to the Vita instead of uporting from the 3DS.

Only real hope now is Dragon's Dogma 2/Deep Down being put on Vita, or the eventual soul Sacrifice sequel being on PS4.

It was originally in development for Wii and then they decided to make it for the Wii instead of the Wii to cut development costs?

I think Nintendo should buy Rare back. Just that.

Western devs/publishers are too greedy to do exclusive deals, unless they're getting paid BIG bucks (see Titanfall - not sure if it's Respawn or EA who worked the MS-exclusive deal). Buying out is the better approach to guarantee exclusiveness.

Oh please no. As an avid user of GOG.com, I really would hate to see it bought out by Nintendo, who having no interest in PC games would dismantle it or sell it to someone who might change it for the worse.

I stated that Nintendo would still give whoever they buy out complete freedom. And why would GOG change or be dismantled? It's just a service for old games and indie games. Nintendo wouldn't care about that. Just as long as CD Projekt Red's new games are Nintendo-exclusive... that's the point of what I said...

Development costs aren't the only factor here. They got into a disagreement over localizing MHP3rd HD due to Sony trying to make Capcom foot the bill for the server updates they need to get ad-hoc games working online. Given that Nintendo was willing to really push MH3 like they did I really can't blame them for making the switch or not wanting to make the "next gen" Monster Hunter most people would expect from a PS3 or PS4 game.

Then of course theres the obvious stuff like install bases and deminishing returns that have already been brought up countless times already. If they made MH3U for the Vita we probably wouldn't have gotten it due to how bad its doing. They've got both Nintendo's handhelds and likely their support for being exclusive which is something Nintendo is going to want to keep seeing as they'd have both the third-party support they need and one of the biggest franchises in Japan to boot. Its a win-win for both sides I'd say.

Can't Microsoft is Using them As Slaves and Forceing them to make Wii Sports Rip-offs like Kinect Games that nobody buys. I hope Nintendo gets with
Rareware former developers to create a WHOLE new 3D Platformer like Banjokazooie

The kinect sports series has sold around 20 million between the two games.

I admit it'd be pretty awesome to see Resident Evil and Devil May Cry continue to come to Nintendo. I just can't see them doing well as exclusives.

They should totally go out and buy some struggling companies now though. Atlus is a good example and somehow I can see the Persona series Nintendo exclusive. High Voltage is another one. Can't be a bad thing to have two FPS devs. Square Enix may be heading there if they keep making bad games. I can also see Sega willingly becoming a Nintendo second-party even without a buyout, as people go to Nintendo systems for exactly the sort of experience Sega is selling.

I can't see it happen, but maybe a Mega Man title for Wii U could happen.

Nintendo doesn't tend to dismantle bought companies, unlike a certain other corporation...

Yeah, and Sega, Namco, Square Enix, maybe even Sony? WHY HAVENT NINTENDO THOUGHT OF THIS?!

The Witcher 3 restricted to the Wii U?

That is quite possibly one of the saddest ideas I've ever heard. Thankfully they love the PC and don't care for the Wii U so that would never happen.

But still, talk about completely destroying a dev..

I think the figure is closer to 10 million, i'm sure there was an article recently with a microsoft dev stating that they Kinect Sports has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

Edit: Couldn't find article but got this from VGcharts http://www.vgchartz.com/ , they don't track digital sales yet but there is no way each version sold more digitally than physical (If they have download versions that is)
Kinect Sports Global Total as of 06th Jul 2013 (units): 5.62m
Kinect Sports S2 Global Total as of 06th Jul 2013 (units): 2.15m

Only games I can see Nintendo working with from Capcom's IPs are Mega Man (perfect for Retro Studios) and Okami. But yeah, Nintendo buying Capcom isn't happening anytime soon.
