Do I get a wii u or do I wait for NX( if it's a console). The wii u has a couple of games I really want to play (splatoon, whooly world, mario maker and eventually zelda U). But, then Nx might have more 3rd party support. What to do? #firstworldproblems

It might be better to post this to the genral discussion board

value-wise, its not a good idea to be an early adopter of a new console. We know little about the NX, once we do you might not even still want one. When its released, games are likely to be priced high, without a budget range and maybe even a software drought (not many titles to choose from)
Wii U has plenty of good games, its available now, has more good games coming soon - get it now with Wooly World and Splatoon, and then next month Mario Maker - and pick up some old bargains, VC and eshop games and you will have plenty to play.
And get the NX when its been out a year or two

I'd get a Wii U. If the NX is a home console and if it comes out earlier than most are expecting? Then you'll still be waiting more than a year for it. Likely longer before it has more than one or two games worth getting on it. I'm an early adopter and I'll probably be getting the NX fairly early but I doubt it'll have the library the Wii U has now until at least late 2017. The Wii U has games out already. So if it's Nintendo games you're after get a Wii U.

Wooooooooow. Now I can't get ROB or Mii Brawler in a single pack, because they are only available in the 3 packs. I'm pissed off, Nintendo.

If you can't afford it then you should wait. Seems simple to me. Especially since Wii U probably isn't getting a price drop soon at this rate, at least until the inevitable fire sale.

I'd say the holiday season might bring some deals on the Wii U. You may want to wait till that. But yes, at this point, the Wii U is what you see is what you get, the NX is in the realm of the unknown. If you like what you see on the Wii U already, you should get one sooner or later.

@Torterror: That depends on a number of things. How patient are you? Is the NX really a console? Will the NX be backwards compatible? Personally, I would suggest getting a U, but if youre Patient and unsire, wait for more news on the NX before making a decision. If the NX can play U games, then you may be better off just waiting as then you'll be able to justify buying an NX off the bat to play Wii U games you couldn't play before.

In the end, it's up to you, but either way, we'll see you on some console somewhere.

Just get a Wii U. If anyone ever decided not to buy the next or current thing, because of the next thing, hardly anyone would buy much of anything ever. There's lots of games, and you'll be able to get your money's worth within a year easily, IF you actually buy games. The Splatoon bundle coupled with even just Smash Bros. will set you up for like at least 3 months of non-stop play, as long as you play online or actually play at all. You'll have the other 9 months to decide what to play, and find time for it, since you're already playing the games with basically infinite replay value.

That's besides that NX isn't even supposed to replace Wii U or New 3DS(based on the first announcement about NX, ever), but that's a different discussion about NX that no one knows about, which goes back to saying you should just buy the newest thing that is out now.

I was an early adaptor with all Nintendo handhelds and consoles including WiiU and probably will be with NX I figure I'm going to have them anyway I might as well get as much time with them as I can and enjoy myself than make myself wait a year or two just to save a pretty irrelevant amount of small change. I say go for the WiiU and when the NX arrives go for that also no point in missing out.

If you really cannot afford it, just have a little patience and wait until we find out what this NX platform is. Not only that, the Wii U shall be cheaper (by then) and have a couple more games available to play come this time next year. Perhaps this NX may well offer full backwards compatibly, who knows!

It is all too easy for others to say 'get a Wii U' when you cannot afford it quite as tidily as you wish to. A little bit of waiting does nobody any harm, hey? Or perhaps buy a 3DS in the mean time, given that its catalog of games offers more quality and variety than the Wii U.

@Peek-a-boo:
Well, anybody who bought Wii U on launch and actually bought/played games would probably tell you that waiting to this point was pointless already. I've spent like 200 hours on both Tekken Tag 2 and Monster Hunter, alone, and I only played MH online. That's not even counting all my oher games like Smash Bros. or anything.

So ya, if you actually play the Wii U, you will get your moneys worth. Like I said, again, NX was already announced to not even replace Wii U or New 3DS. People just like to think Wii U is dead and there are no games, or that Nintendo is bankrupt, which is why they think you should refuse to buy it. Nobody reads the gaming news, otherwise they would think NX is a separate platform from Wii U or New 3DS. New 3DS replaces 3DS(to an extent), but NX doesn't replace Wii U or New 3DS. I'm abandoning the thread now...(hopefully).

Um, but the OP hasn't been waiting 'since launch' as he (or she) has just had his (or her) first inklings of buying a Wii U, even though the OP has said that he/she cannot afford it quite so easily. I have got my money's worth too however, I also feel disappointed that the Wii U is coming to a premature end, as it is a great little console.

I also really believe that first party development has more or less come to a halt on the Wii U outside of Starfox, Super Mario Maker and The Legend of Zelda whereas I can see the 3DS going for another year or so. It is all about mobile platforms (on Android and iOS) and the NX from here onwards, especially in 2016 and beyond.

SCRAPPER392

One of the first things they said, was that NX wasn't replacing Wii U or New 3DS, though. That means there shouldn't ever be any sort of question about it replacing anything, especially if whoever is asking even knows what the NX is.

I think NX is supposed to be QoL hardware. Even if Dragon Quest shows up on it, which is also going to be on 3DS, that would still say in the very least, that it will share only SOME software. It doesn't make sense why they would say DQ will be on 3DS and NX, but be absent on Wii U, under the idea that NX is replacing it, because then why would 3DS be getting it?

If you haven't bought a Wii U by now, because "no games" or something similar(which was around launch time), and questions about NX future exist, then I'm guessing you just won't buy anything at all. Once NX comes out, Nintendo might be "doomed". We'll just have to see.

get a Wii U, they're a lot of fun. they wont get any cheaper and there's finally a lot of great games on it, and they aren't full price, it's nothing but win!

don't be scared about a "consoles life cycle" because such a thing does not exist. if you still play it every day it's alive to you, right? that's all that counts.

the SNES is still alive. put it that way.
