Due to not wanting to be spoiled for Majora's Mask I'm having a temporary break from Hyrule Warriors and decided to return to Mario Kart 8. While playing, I thought back to last year's Mario Kart 8 summer tournaments (I'm talking mostly about the ones before the EGX related stuff) and wonder if something similar could happen this year but with multiple games.
There could be:
A Mario Kart 8 tournament with all 48 tracks available
A Smash Wii U tournament provided the tournaments update makes this suitable
A squad Splatoon tournament where people sign up in groups of 4 with other members in the community and/or people they know locally (may change dependent on how the online actually works come launch)
Maybe even a Devil's Third tournament assuming that game comes out 1st half of 2015 (it's already rated in Australia so it can't be too far off, right?)
Star Fox tournament if it has online multiplayer and comes out early enough
Meh. All of the tournaments and contents they hold are UK-only I believe. The last time (I think.) that I got the chance to enter a competition here was for an Animal Crossing New Leaf shirt a year and a half ago! I also believe that there were a few Nintendolife Mario Kart 7 servers up, but good luck trying to get 1,000,000 points which is what the first place guys would always have!

That's one of the main reasons why Mario Kart 8 treats tournaments better because a race number limit can be set. Anyway I can see why they're UK exclusive and that's because Nintendo ditched a points system for real money hence UK eshop cards cannot be redeemed in EU eshops. That said, maybe Nintendo will announce something which makes it easier to have EU/US tournaments (e.g. gifting games being a choice on the 3DS or Wii U eshop).
I don't know for certain but I think gifting worked between different regions on Wii? If not, I know for certain that it works on Steam.
