Topic: Nintendo hiring Lead Graphic Engineer for a Next-Gen Console!!!!

I'm in the minority here, but I want a new home console ASAP. The Wii U has taught me that one game alone can't sell a system, even Smash, when that system has abysmal support and meh 1st party games otherwise.

I'd love to be able to skip this gen and just start with a new console.

you know a new console wouldn't make game development any better for Nintendo, in fact it would probably slow them down more. Sorry you think 1st Party games have been "meh" on the Eii U but I have been really loving them. Wii U is a good system, I just think Nintendo needs to be more vocal to both consumers and developers about what they offer.

New console doesn't equal instant support or new games. In fact it will take longer. What 1st party games are you waiting for exactly? Usually when someone says a game is meh but it has been well received or reviewed means that game is merely not their cup of tea. Which means you are waiting on other games. F-Zero fan?

Some of the comments are nonsensical. We're not gonna see a new home console for a long time in the market. The cycle is 5 years, so you can expect the next Nintendo home console hit in 2017 earliest.
Gladly this is not an actual article in some major publication... people might think Nintendo is abandoning the Wii U already and decide to skip it in wait for the next console. Lacking common sense is TOO popular these days...

On the 3rd Party front, Madden and some sort of baseball game would be nice along with a solid mix of other 3rd Party games I'm interested in like Arkham Knight, Kingdom Hearts 3, Plants v Zombies Garden Warfare, some Star Wars games, and, if they still made them, a good Spider-Man game, among a few other things. I have various interests, but they don't include CoD, FIFA, or Assassin's Creed.

On the 1st Party front, it takes little more than a search on Wikipedia to show how slow the games have been on Wii U compared to their last 3 consoles. But making that issue even worse is that I was incredibly disappointed by games I thought I'd like. Namely Mario 3D World and Hyrule Warriors. I think attempting to apply 2D platforming elements to a 3D Platformer was a terrible decision after giving the game more than a fair shake, and Hyrule Warriors seems to be little more than a mash A fest. I like action games and mechanics, but HW doesn't seem to have any depth or challenge whatsoever

Lastly, I'm not crazy about going back to button controls after a generation full of motion controls. On paper it seems like a step back. Though that's quite minor.

Not necessarily. If it were rushed out, yes, that would be the case, but ideally, they could plan out the new launch 3-4 years from the Wii U's launch so that it had a solid library. Now it know from a business perspective it would be stupid, and as a Nintendo stock holder, I'd lose faith in Nintendo as a company able to succeed, like I did with Apple last week, and sell them. But as a jaded fan who has given the console chance after chance, and being disappointed each time, even on the hardware front, I can't help but want something new thats more in line with my tastes.

Just to be clear, I'm not a Nintendo hater. I was an ardent supporter of most of what I'm criticizing before I tried it for myself. I only criticize because I feel genuinely disappointed with products that fell short of my expectations (except NintendoLand, that game kicks ass)

So this thread is about to turn into 80 more paragraphs about why iKhan doesn't like the Wii U, yaaay.

That is what it sounds like. The Wii U doesn't cater exclusively to what @iKhan wants making it a bad console, even if others enjoy what he doesn't

If anyone is to ever replace Iwata, it should be iKhan.

I think you have made your point. Welcome back to discuss that new console, when it has been announced and a forum has opened for it. In the meantime, enjoy playing your Okami and Paper Mario 2. And good luck on those Nintendo shareholder's meetings.

How else do you gauge how good or bad a console is aside from personal opinion? I think the games are disappointing and the including the Gamepad does far more harm than good in terms of weaker specs and a higher price. If you thought that about a console, you'd think its bad too.

Why is everyone jumping on me? I only made those two long posts in response to what people asked me. I'm not telling everyone else to hate the Wii U or anything, I'm just clarifying my point to people who replied to me

TW101 looks amazing. If I buy a Wii U, it will be among the first games I buy. I've never played a Pikmin game, but I've always wanted to, so it's a likely choice. And MK8 seems like a solid game, but nothing I'm gonna rush out to buy. Especially at 60$.

I'm not a fan of 2D platformers. I grew up in the N64 and GC eras where they were all but dead, and since then they really haven't stood out to me as amazing.

I'm speaking only of games that are out and that I've tried. Doesn't make much sense to evaluate a console by what's not out or you haven't played. I'm not even sure if I'm interested in Bayo 2. It looks really fun, but personally, I'm also a pretty conservative guy, so my moral/religious conscience kind of pulls me away. But that's mostly irrelevant because even if I could shut that conscience off, I'd want to play it before I say it's good or bad.

So that's 2 games I know I want (TW101 and NintendoLand) and 2 maybes. Not really worth dropping 300$ on.

And before someone else buts in saying I keep complaining. I'm just answering questions.

This feels weird that Nintendo is bring a next gen console out not with some games coming out for the Wii U soon and do feel that is still has more potential to draw out from the console. In the end, even if does feel a little weird, I hope Nintendo does a better job advertising the new one..

It seems like after the amazing "Wii would like to play" ads, Nintendo's marketing team decided to do a whole bunch of drugs, and as a result, their advertising has been bad (on average, there have been a small number of great ones, and many average ones)

They haven't announced a new console yet. They're in the early planning stages of their next console (Sony and Microsoft most likely are as well). I doubt we'll see a new console before 2017 the earliest. And yes I agree they're advertising department needs to wake up.
