I don't think it's as big as you make it. They are of course working on a new console.
Well your such a party pooper

I don't see anything coming out of this before 2020. Nintendo would be shooting their own foot if they released the next one too soon. Besides, while the job description seems to imply even higher standards than WiiU, it's entirely possible that nothing specific will come out of it. After all, they're pretty much always testing new technologies and architectures for future reference - otherwise, they'd waste a whole lot of time just looking for the general direction of the next product.
For all I care, a job posting doesn't mean that something's about to happen. Whoever gets the job might be assigned for the next handheld, instead.
I agree, at least 2020 with home console and I think until 2016. 2018 with handheld.
There is no way they would wait until 2020 with the way the Wii U is selling. I predict 2016 for their new handheld and 2017 for their new console(assuming they don't make a hybrid console).
I hope they actually learned their lesson and actually try to be competitive next generation. Yes they can be innovative but if they want to get the attention of third parties and customers then they need a moderately powerful console, a proper internet structure, and and a fully functioning account system.
Don't want to break your bubble, but they probably started the "next gen" project as soon as the Wii U was showcased back in 2011. The same goes for Sony and M$. I don't see why people are getting excited over this.
On the opposite though, if Nintendo doesn't have a console project going on, then that would be HUGE.
As for the life of the Wii U, realistically I'm estimating 2018 showcase and 2019 launch.
Summary of Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have had experience working directly in a GPU architecture and design team with significant responsibilities. Low power and SoC design experience would be a plus.
The candidate is expected to have good architectural insights and the ability to apply that for setting future graphics direction for Nintendo.
A bachelors degree (graduate degree preferred) in computer science/engineering or electrical engineering.
5+ years of lead or architectural role experience are required.
Sounds more like the initial focus will be on a low power device, which would suggest a portable device. Doesn't rule out a proper console because Nintendo has been going that way on both platforms but I'd wager it'd lean that way. Not only that but the 3DS is due to be replaced well before the Wii U will be and they're already pushing the limits of what the 3DS can do. So much so that we're already seeing a half-revision for the 3DS. The 3DS is having its DSi/GBC/GBA-SP moment right now. A replacement shouldn't be too far off.
They have too much to do with the Wii U yet to be bringing it up at E3 next year. There's no way they're going to kill the hype for the next Zelda by doing a Twilight Princess on it, not when the Wii U hasn't had its Wind Waker, Galaxy or Prime moment yet. They have stuff to do on the platform before they move on. We know that the usual approach is to talk about it one year, push it harder the next and release it at the end of that second year. So if next year can't really be the first year to talk about it, 2016 would be the earliest year where they'd start talking. Which pushes earliest reasonable date for the Wii U's successor out to late 2017. If I was betting on it I'd personally put my money on late 2018 for the Wii U successor, early 2016 for the next handheld.
R&D is a permanent position. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are never NOT working on their next console. This doesn't mean the successor is imminent, nor that it's not. I agree with @skywake and would put my money on a holiday 2018 release for the Nintendo 7.
The low power preference was what immediately caught me eye though. For anyone hoping that the next Nintendo console would be a contender in the graphic/horsepower department, there's your cue stop hoping now. I don't have any problem with that though. I'm a man who appreciates low power and cooling efficiency, and the Wii U is a sexy machine in that regard.

To be fair even if it is not the portable we're talking quite a few years from now. And the way the GPU industry has been going? Everything is aiming for lower power consumption in general. Put it this way, a few years ago if you were building a decent single GPU gaming PC you could easily push power consumption upto 500W. In comparison on the highest end single GPU on the market now teamed with one of the highest end consumer grade CPUs full load is 300W. Everyone is aiming for lower power consumption over higher performance, not just Nintendo.
.... mostly because they see a lot more money in smaller form factor devices. They want better performance parts in low-profile laptops and tablets or in the back of TVs. So I think it's a fairly reasonable guess to say that the PS4/XBOne at ~120W could end up being the highest wattage gaming consoles we'll ever have. The next generation they'll all be much, much more efficient. And if it's going to be the console generation of digital distribution and large SSDs for storage? I welcome it. Silent and quick loading gaming consoles for the first time since the N64.
I would go 2017 for the next home console, which maker the U about 5 years old which is the normal lifespan unless we get a hybrid (which I hope we do) then I could see that 2016 when the 3DS will be 6 years old and U 4 years old.

The new 3ds seems to be developed with a bit of extra length in mind - precisely to enable the next hybrid, aligning them perfectly. Home consoles will become a thin client after all, I guess.
I'm still betting a reveal in 2016, release end of 2017 as it stands. If the wii U starts picking up some steam, this may lengthen even further.
Oh well, I've been wrong before. Meanwhile I like the shape nintendo has been in regarding the quality of the games available. As long as that sticks, I'm in.
