5+ years of lead or architectural role experience are required.
I'm happy and sad at the same time. I'm happy that Nintendo started to learn a lesson, but I'm sad that I'm not yet satisfied with my Wii U. Hope they release their next console in 2017.
Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't want a new home console, because I think it'd be too soon. I mean, I know the Wii U could be selling better, but it hasn't even been two full years! Starting over now would most likely just make things worse, because they'd be going 'Hey, we know you spent $300 on a Wii U not too long ago, but buy this because we're done with that now!', which would most likely alienate a large chunk of their fans. They should wait a little longer, if you ask me. I'm not even sure about a new handheld because of the New 3DS. But yeah, when the day comes, I hope they've learned from their mistakes...starting with actually advertising the damn thing! Seriously! It took a full year for me to see some Wii U adds after the release!
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

It takes a long time to get a console developed. The big 3 will all have stared the planning stages as soon as they shipped their last consoles. Apparently Cerny was appointed to this role on the PS4 back in 2008, 2 years after the PS3... which is where Nintendo are now.

You do know that they always work this way. The moment their latest console releases it's back to the drawing board and they start planning their next console. Besides that a consoles lifetime is roughly five years so in order to be ready to roll out something new they shoul start now however we won't see any announcements till 2016/2017
Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am
I don't see anything coming out of this before 2020. Nintendo would be shooting their own foot if they released the next one too soon. Besides, while the job description seems to imply even higher standards than WiiU, it's entirely possible that nothing specific will come out of it. After all, they're pretty much always testing new technologies and architectures for future reference - otherwise, they'd waste a whole lot of time just looking for the general direction of the next product.
For all I care, a job posting doesn't mean that something's about to happen. Whoever gets the job might be assigned for the next handheld, instead.

They will never give the Wii U an 8 year lifespan. The Wii was their most successful console ever and got 6. I imagine we'll probably be seeing the next one in time for Christmas 2017.

Yeah, you're right. I wonder what types of games it'll have at the launch? One thing's for sure, it should definitely not have a majority of its launch titles games you could've gotten on other systems. That was a serious problem with the Wii U launch lineup.

Pretty standard. Console life times are about 5-6 years excluding the last gen which was nuts. It takes years to dev a new machine so it will still be a bit before Nintendo even thinks about putting a console to the market. I do hope that they wait until sony and microsoft announce theirs so they can come up with a comparable but still lower spec (for costs...Nintendo is not going to put out a device that doesn't return a profit on purchase) so the 3rd parties can stop making excuses.

People saying that this generation of consoles need to last eight years fail to remember that the GameCube only had a five year lifespan. The N64 only had a five year lifespan. The SNES only had five year lifespan (before being replaced, it technically was longer). The NES had a six year lifespan.

I'm not saying that we're going to be seeing a new console within a few years, just that we shouldn't be surprised if we do.

i can hear peoples brains thinking about topics to post:
"what do you think about nintendos new console?"
"is it a handheld or home console?"
"what if nintendos new console comes out this christmas?"
"is the wii u going to be gone by christmas?"
"do you believe in christmas?"
"why does my wii u smell like cheese?"
"do you predict the new nintendo console outselling the wii u?"
"will the new nintendo system have virtual console?"
"can it play mother 3?"

I don't think it's as big as you make it. They are of course working on a new console.
