I would say yes, just because no one else has kept up a relatively consistent high quality this long, or even close. Like once in a while they do notably fall below their legit high standards, like their "maybe this was fun back then but wtf is this" early NES lineup other than Mario/Duckhunt and Excitebike or the thankfully brief attempt to turn Mario into meaningless samey garbage but even those aren't all bad quality or anything (perhaps "at the time" for those NES games). But they haven't had a true, long term fall in quality (or sanity) that nearly every other video game company from the 80s has suffered.
And that quality is still clearly here but it's really significant for me that despite some initial worries in the transition from Wii to Wii U, that Nintendo is still the fantastic gaming company people know and love.
That is why I don't place any weight in metacritic any more.
By their own breakdown Nintendo has 4 - Great games. (Take Two has 2 which I could potentially accept people thought were better. Bioshock Infinite and GTAV). Ubisoft has 1 - EA has 0 (Sony has 2).
(Great games being over 90).

Mario Kart should be under the Party genre. (At least from 64 onwards - Super Mario Kart is primarily a racing game).
Loads of other genres they don't bother with either.
pure run n gun (Contra / Metal Slug / Gunstar Heroes)
vertical and horizontal shmup. (Bullet Hell and none bullet hell)
Light Gun style Shooter (Last one was Yoshi's Safari).
Sin & Punishment 2 is another rail shooter (Along with Starfox).
The only really well served genres from Nintendo are 2D Platformers and Puzzle games. (If every genre had that amount of content it would be great).
i have to disagree with you. they make plenty of rpg's and strategy titles.

Not enough to give a choice or even all types.
Those categories include loads of types of games Nintendo doesn't do.

Of all time? Probably, but it's not like it's a fair race. They're one of the few companies still standing from the mid-to-late 80's, let alone putting out fairly-high-rated games. Of recent years? That's a bit more debateable, since there are plenty of newer companies with a consistant track record, albeit they can't quite match the sheer volume. Atlus, Falcom Nihon, and NIS (at least on the development side) come to mind.
Xseed are fantastic. I need to get another one of their games at some point. They are like exhibit A on why every bad thing said about the state of Japanese gaming is ridiculous (though considering the sales of those titles, they sadly might also be a rebuttal to exhibit A)
No, the best publisher/developer right now is Sony. They make better exclusives (developed by them), and have have made one of interest recently. (Thinking about it, it's been a long time since Nintendo has released one.)
To be specific, I'd say Game Freak is my favorite game development company, along with Monolith Soft. Nintendo as a whole is definitely my favorite if we're not counting its sub-divisions.

I think one of the things that makes Nintendo so great and their games memorable is the connection between the hardware and software. If they weren't making unique hardware and unique software to go with it, then it wouldn't be the same.
EDIT: I have been thinking, what if Nintendo started doing Micro-consoles? Under-powered systems that cheap and easy to develop for. Nintendo software is able to push the console while other developers are able to experiment with it. It might be possible for them to open the market a bit more by allowing anyone to get a dev-kit but still require the standard Nintendo "checks" before a game can be sold. Just an idea I had, could be terrible lol
Yes, Nintendo is the best. I am pretty much done playing 10 hour single player campaign games set in dark, apocalyptic worlds, filled with lame cut scenes and generic video game characters like a space marine or a European from the middle ages .
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.

Would you say Nintendo is the greatest Developer/Publisher of games, not including their console work and stuff, in the industry today?
Blizzard Entertainment is the only publisher / developer that can realisticly compete with Nintendo on game quality.
Even though I'm not the biggest Blizzard fan myself (I always suck at their games)...I might actually agree with this. Since I can't play them very well, I like to watch other people play them, and most of their games have a great quality and competitive edge to them.
And to people who say Sony...to each their own, but most of their in-house developed games are just second fiddle to Nintendo franchises they're trying to emulate (LBP, LBP Karting, PS All Stars, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Crash Bandicoot (RIP), etc., etc.). Naughty Dog obviously helps the brand...but I think they're second party though, not in house. I could be wrong on that, but even with them I don't think overall quality comes close Blizzard or Nintendo (or Bioware before EA bought them T_T)

LOL, It's sad how often this does seem to happen. It's why I NEVER buy the AAA "Keeping up with the Joneses" games day one anymore. Paying $60+ for a ten hour campaign, no replay value, and sometimes overrated story? (Some are great, just not as many as reviewers claim). No thanks.
