Topic: Nintendo Figurines and what it could mean for Nintendo games?

As we know E3 is in exactly 22 days. (It sure is coming fast) I was watching this video (I'll put it down) and the guys at IGN were talking about Nintendo figurines on how it could effect Nintendo in many ways (Good and some Bad) and I was thinking what games do you see them putting this NFC technology in? I could see a lot of people interested in this. For me as a Nintendo fan I'm very excited for what they have in store for us. But see here's the problem that I have here, I could see Nintendo becoming a successful with this and somewhat no. I think it just a quick way to get cash. ( I don't know why but that's the way I see it) I think there will be games but not a lot. More like a AR games from 3DS that it was a techdemo (to me) no games. I could also see it in game like Mario Kart, SSB, Possibly future Mario games and probably Pokemon.

What do you guys think will it be a sell out for Nintendo or will it be like AR games? What do you think the figurines are to be aimed for? I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S A TOPIC ABOUT THIS SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW (Hard for me to search when you have slow internet speed)

To me, this all seems a bit late, and unless they really do something different with the concept I gotta say this feels pretty "ME TOO" on Nintendo's part. Skylanders is going on its what 3rd or 4th title? Disney is about to drop their second installment. And now... Nintendo is going to finally "unveil" something similar but with...gasp...Nintendo franchise characters. Snore.

Sound like a plot for a Warioware game where Wario uses NFC technology for more cash!
Those losers would buy anything, and have a rotten day while doing so.

I agree, too me they took too long to release this tech and now they decide to make NFC figurines.....because Nintendo needs a quick way to make cash and make everyone forget on how they messed up....That's the way I see it.

Nintendo would not have had the NFC tech in the gamepad upon launch if they were attempting a 'quick cash in'. If you believe in Nintendo enough to buy a Wii U or a 3ds for their games so far, then put faith in them that they'll put effort into this and it has a chance to be quite good.

And if not, at least there will be a bunch of Nintendo figurines to cheer people up.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Everything to do with NFC seems to be hacked / cloned in about 10 mins.

NFC has so much potential. Kids eat that skylanders stuff up like nobody's business, but you could put an NFC tag in just about anything. Imagine if all those models of Gundam mecha or anime figurines had NFC tags in them, that could unlock stuff in the companion games. Imagine if all those pokemon cards each had an NFC tag. Or what if you buy a cinema ticket to the new Batman movie and it has an NFC tag embedded in the ticket that can be used to unlock a secret level in the new Batman game.

What Nintendo are really gunning for here is to create a set of NFC figurines that encourage you to collect the full set. So from now on, expect that each new Mario game that comes out, (or maybe each new Nintendo game), you'll be able to unlock different stuff on it with each figurine. Pretty soon, it'll be worth buying the whole collection. What's more, if you have a couple of the figurines, you'll be more likely to buy a new Mario game as you know you're getting even more for the same price.

I think the only way they could screw this up is if they design the games so that you need to get a particular figurine, and without it, you can't really make progress in a game (same as a lot of f2p games). But so far, Nintendo seem to have done a pretty good job of avoiding that stuff, and I think they're aware of how people would react. So I expect it to be simply unlocking "bonus" material or purely decorative / aesthetic stuff

I have such a baaaaad feeling about this! Not only does it feel like Nintendo jumps on the bandwagon AGAIN, but its just a cheap way to earn big money! I don't want to see cheap, yearly sequels just to sell new figurines!

In other words: This is NOT what the fans are asking for! We are asking for Starfox, Metroid, F-Zero, Earthbound! Not again a avalanche of Mario titles! Or unnecesary Nintendo land sequels! Or casual nonsense! Please no!

Where in Iwata's presentation of the NFC project does it say sequels?

I'm kinda certain that "Pokemon Omega Ruby", "Pokemon Alpha Sapphire", and "Super Smash Bros. 3D" will have NFC for the 3DS and "New Super Mario Bros. U" and "Pikmin 3" on the "Wii u" side.

Both "Pokemon Games": Adding both new and "Pokemon" to the games and making trading "Pokemon" so much easier than having to go online and do it.

"Super Smash Bros. 3D": Adding new fighters in the fray.

"New Super Mario Bros. U": Adding new levels to the game (it doesn't HAVE to be figurines. Remember the "e-Reader"?)

"Pikmin 3": Adding new levels to the game (see "New Super Mario Bros. U" reason).

Who are you?

SCRAPPER392

I don't think it's completely a cash grab. Nintendo wants to make money, like everyone else, but making it so that they can be used across multiple software holds some promise. I know you can use Skylanders figures for multiple games, but Nintendo has it setup so it's more system wide, which is a good thing.

In alot of ways, it seems like an interactive memory card. We need more info, so I'm not drawing conclusions.

I meant that if the game becomes a succes there will be sequel after sequel after sequel! Like what happened with Skylanders!

na it's going to be both smash games and that pokemon fighter game that screens keep popping up for. well for starters. i doubt any of the older titles will use this but we will see.

Nintendo has already done this with Pokémon Rumble U
But to get any of those toys where really pricy, for a game that wasn't that fun.

Good luck trying to find any of those toys, you can't.

I really just hope this whole thing is very optional. If I have to suddenly buy little toys in order to get certain DLC or unlock parts of games I'm gonna be bummed. I'm an adult, I don't want toys, nor do I want more junk I have to keep around just to play my friggin Wii U games.

I really want those toys but don't want to sell a kidney for them. I have been looking everywhere

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Nintendo isn't own or managed by Activision. The presentation by Nintendo doesn't mention "a game" or a specific game, it mention support across different kinds of games. Big difference to the Skylanders approach IMO.
Based on the material current available, I get the impression that the NFC figurines are optional for the games, but I'll personally wait until e3 for the more formal announcement of the project.

I would think that it's an optional purchase, and the software would still be available without buying the toy. Personally, I would not like mini add-ons, but it would be a treat if instead of just "download codes" packed into consoles, the download code would be found within a figurine in the box.
