I just got back from best buy. I choose to play Mario Kart.

The Bad: Only one Kiosk? The line was so long, I got there an hour earlier and still didn't get to play until 2:30. This was ridiculous on Nintendo's part.
Nintendo could have also had a screen next to the kiosk showing all the trailers from e3, missed opportunity.

The good: The lines were long and it showed people were really interested in the Wii U, at least Mario Kart and they were willing to wait 5 hrs to play it.

Mario Kart looked great, the controls was the same and great as usual but the graphics were really nice. I can't wait for this game. Day one purchase.
Donkey Kong: I have no clue what people are hating on it. It isn't cinematic and epic like Metroid but they game looks like a load of fun and I love the camera angles.
Mario 3d World: It looked like a lot of fun, people that played were having a blast and I can't wait to play it with my wife and friends. It isn't Galaxy but that doesn't mean it can't be as much fun. I can't wait to see more of the creativity they will pour into the game. The see through pipes might seem small but it was really interesting. I am getting it for sure.
Zelda: Same old Wind Waker but in HD. If you haven't played it before you are in for a treat.

I guess its because people wanted retro to do Metroid again or some other series, and were expecting them to announce one of those games instead. :/
Doesn't bother me though.

I came twice both times I decided to play Donkey Kong Country Tropical Breeze
The visuals are much more colourful. It looks really great.
The 2.5D Camera is both excellent, and somewhat loses the point to Donkey Kong Country. One thing that was great was that the camera moved left to right. It looked like you were looking at a canvas. This one doesn't want to go that same way, it gives the levels more exploration value. At the same time, it leaves you at awe at how great it still looks.
The music is astounding. Water gameplay has a relaxing tone, the first level has another well done Jungle Japes remake, and the boss level has a strange, yet fitting rock theme.
I was going to play 3D World, however time was up. And I couldn't have played. Ce la vie.
As for loot I got:
A foam Luigi hat. Cheap yet stylish
Animal Crossing 3DS Sticker. It looks really nice and it resembles the box art
Mario Kart Racing Flag. Its just a flag, with Mario on it.
Animal Crossing New Leaf Pins. My favorite loot that I got. 4 pins in one package.

They only had the flag, the Luigi coin, Luigi hat and Wii U neck strap. Every got the strap and you have to choose between the rest. I took the coin. it looks really nice. Hopefully it turns into a collectible at some point. DK was really pretty, I am sure it is going to be fun and if you love platformers, the Wii U is sure to get.

I so wish I wouldn't have had work today I would have totally gone again and got tons more footage, unfortunately productive societal needs come first :/. But I did get some footage on its first day, if anyone would like to see that and the analysis check out me and my buddies channel http://www.youtube.com/TheRetroSmash

I played MK8 and loved it, but I also thought DK looked fabulous!

I started off with a Luigi hat, but some little kid was bawling when they ran out, so I gave him mine, and then somehow I wound up with 2 Mario Kart flags, 2 Luigi coins, plus 3 stickers. Went to the separate Animal Crossing meetup and they gave us the 3DS sticker. I also won a Luigi pin and Wii U screen cloth from the prize wheel at Nintendo's Cross-Canada Tour this morning. What a day!

I got to play Mario Kart. Man that was so much fun, and the visuals were fantastic! Certainly looking forward to it early next year.

When I walked in and saw the line of people, all with their 3DSs out, I almost wanted to shout, "My people!" Also got to talk a good while with several of them about the upcoming titles; it was very nice.

Unfortunately the freebies were limited to one choice per person so I was only able to get the Luigi Hat (I would have gotten the coin instead, but they were all gone by the time I got there).

Avian fact of the week: The Moa, an extinct relative of ostrichs and emus that inhabited New Zealand, was the tallest bird that ever lived at 12 ft tall (3.6 m). It was also the only known bird to have no wing structure.

I didn't, but I heard about that beforehand and kept a lookout for any. Thankfully my vigil was for nought.

I'm an hour away from the event in Louisville, Kentucky in Indiana, so I rode over the Ohio River with my mom, sister, and half-uncle to the event. When we got there somewhat early, we got Styrofoam Luigi hats and little Mario Kart 8 flags with either Mario or Luigi on them, and I got a Luigi one.

The only complaint I had with the experience was that there was only one TV for this event, but thankfully the crowd was not that bad, certainly not as bad as it would've been at the Florence, Kentucky one with Cincinnati folks coming over. There were also no chairs, so we were all standing packed together with our eyes glued to the screen.

And that screen showed spectacular games! Seriously, seeing these new games in person would really make you think twice about any potential disappointment you felt toward them. Super Mario 3D World is RICH in colors and brightness. Mario Kart 8 is pratically shiny in its HD graphics, and the Mushroom Kingdom never looked better in them. The Boo Mansion track was really good, with nice lighting effects and darkness mixed in. Wind Waker HD is silky smooth. And Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is very detailed, even by Donkey Kong Country Returns standards. They really did put effort in Donkey Kong's fur

Donkey Kong was the only demo my sister and I got to play, unfortunately, since the demo appointment schedule was filled very quickly. We chose to fight the Viking Sea Lion boss, which I practically enjoyed! The boss battle was surprisingly long, especially for the first boss of the game. David Wise also composed cool rock music for the boss battle theme too, so that was good to hear.

My sister and I came back to the event on Saturday, and the crowd was surprisingly not as big as we thought it would be. It was just as big or maybe even smaller than last time. The event was also better managed this time and ran more smoothly than last time as well, since the Best Buy workers were more prepared after the hectic nature of the first event when they didn't even know half of what was going to happen.

This time I played Mario Kart 8, and it felt great! I chose to use the GamePad, and it felt like using the Wii Wheel from Mario Kart Wii, so I grew used to it very quickly. As Wario, I creamed my sister, but that was because she's not used to motion controls for Mario Kart. It would've been a closer race otherwise. Mario Kart 8 still looks amazing, and the little details added give a nice touch. Seeing the lines and shapes in Wario's overalls as well as the lighting of the race tracks really brought the game to life.

The next one we got to play was Super Mario 3D World along with two other people, and I chose to play Toad. We chose to play the first, simple level, and it was all rather fun! The Cat Suit is fun to play, but it's going to take more than a demo for me to get used to controlling it. The visuals are bright and smooth, and the multiplayer felt as crazy as ever.

To my surprise, I got to play Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze again when someone was lacking a partner. Unfortunately, he chose to play the mine cart level, which is not a good level for multiplayer. He had to surrender the cart to me since I was apparently more experienced at Donkey Kong than him, but it was all fun. The visuals of the game went along smoothly as the mine cart went on, and it makes me wonder how much crazier the later mine cart levels will be.

I also got more loot Saturday. I got another Mario Kart flag, this time with Mario on a hover kart. I got a DS latch-thing, which was odd because it wasn't a Wii U one. I also got Luigi coins, but it was a secret reward from the Nintendo representative because no one else at the event got one to my knowledge. She admired my sister and I for having the dedication to come down an hour away to play the event twice. To our surprise, the other Nintendo representative gave us two more Luigi coins. My sister told him the other one gave us coins already, but he insisted. So now we have four Luigi coins each!

And there were no Microsoft party crashers too. The Nintendo woman was well-aware of the situation, but thankfully I never heard or saw anything fishy. I also got tons of street passes, more than I've ever had before!

All in all, it was a great experience!

Drive an hour and a half and didn't get any loot, they were already out. Also, only got to try the Mario title but it was fun (not the epic 3D title I wanted but fun). Saw Mario Kart, it looked beautiful. So did Wind Waker but that one annoyed me a bit because people kept picking it; it was probably the longest demo and was the only one that was single player so it slowed down the line. Just for a remake. Anyways, didn't get to see any DKC, but hope it was good...

Still, Mario multiplayer was fun at least for the chaos. Tried two stages, the first one having clear pipes and I kept trying to explore but people were running too fast. The second stage had the cat bell and I picked Toad and ended up being the fastest character, so I decided just to climb and run like crazy and forget the exploration. No one was keeping up that time but it was amusing, the cat suit is fun.

I went to wednesday's played Mario 3D world and thought it was fun. I think I'll like the single player experience more because the camera won't be on rails like it is in multiplayer. All in all, everything they offered looked good. Even though it looked good, the only game I won't be picking up at launch is Donkey Kong, mostly because I'm not all that interested in 2D platformers. They frustrate me too much. I hope Nintendo does this again next year.
