Hey, do you want a good laugh? Here's another biased disillusion article about how the Wii U is doomed. Enjoy!

http://www.dailyfinance.com/2013/11/10/nintendo-could-be-forc...

But seriously, This actually frustrates me greatly. The person writing this clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. Let's break it down shall we?

The Wii U has been a total failure

Total failure? That's a bit far don't you think? The console isn't selling to the levels Nintendo wants but that's in no way a failure. A console is only a failure if games aren't being produced for it or it sells at the rate of the Virtual Boy. It's still selling and in fact, just experienced a 1500% sales increase in Japan. Total failure? I don't think so.

Microsoft will steal Nintendo's core market

Oh don't make me laugh. First, do you wanna know what Nintendos core market is? Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon fans. We're the ones who have supported Nintendos consoles all this time and where Nintendo get's there main profits from. It might not win console wars, but it certainly keeps them afloat. Secondly, Microsofts efforts to attract Nintendos casual audience hasn't been all that successful in the past and ultimately, families are not going to be swayed this generation either. Who would pay for a $500 system in this economy, a system that looks like a VCR with a controller that is not casual friendly? Certainly not the casual audience that this article is claiming Microsoft will steal.

Unlike Sony, Nintendo can't afford to support a failing console

Nintendo -Looks at 10 billion dollar warchest- "Nah son, we good."

Nintendo can take a loss. They're the most profitable video game company ever.

This holiday season will be crucial for Nintendo

This is true. This holiday is crucial for Nintendo. He got this right. What he doesn't have right however is him thinking that due to inevitable poor sales from competition of PS4 and Xbone will cause Nintendo to discontinue the Wii U. First of all, do you know how much more money Nintendo would be losing if they discontinued the Wii U rather than continuing it? Not to mention, this would also piss a lot of fans off who already own the console and possibly drive them away from future releases. Discontinuing the Wii U is the worst possible decision Nintendo could make. It looks bad on the company, it will scare off investors, it screws over the fans and it's millions of dollars worth of hardware wasted. Not a good move, at all.

It's just a very uneducated and poorly written article that's full of bias and misinformation. I can't believe this passes as Journalism.

That article is so inaccurate it made me lose a few brain cells. For example, they said that Nintendo is losing the casual market but the Xbox One should appeal to it? So, people should drop $500 for that?

That article is just as bad and poorly researched, but I agree with his general sentiment that the Wii-U isn't toast yet.

-The author says 6 million Wii-U's have been sold thus far when it has only sold maybe 4 million. He also says it will reach its 9 million sales goal by March, which is absurd. It takes 3 seconds to find out how many Wii-U's have been sold, so how can a "writer" make such a basic error?

-Says the Kinect is for "pre-schoolers", and that Nintendo aims for an "older" audience of 10+.....wait, what???

-Says a Wii-U Zelda and Star Fox are coming in 2014...umm...no. At least not Zelda.

-Argues that if the PS4 and Xbox are sold out at Xmas, people will automatically decide to get a Wii-U instead. Again, no.

I disagree, I think he's right on all points. Some of his points are assumptions yes, but they're assumptions based upon what we know right now and all that we are able to know right now.

The Wii U is the cheapest next gen console so I can imagine most famiies (who don't have much money) buying a Wii U for Christmas as present. I can also easily imagine those same families buying a Wii U bundle and Super Mario 3D World.
Japan isn't even getting the PS4 until Feburaury 2014 and there aren't that many next gen JRPGs announced....yet.
So the Wii U will be fine this holiday season.
2014 holds Bayonetta 2, Monolith's X, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Donkey Kong U, Mario Kart U, Super Smash Bros. U, maybe Shigeru Miyamoto's new IP, Yarn Yoshi U, and any other game Nintendo has planned.
The Wii U will be fine.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I do plan on getting a PS4 eventually.

You think he is correct that the Wii-U has sold 6 million units so far? And on the assumption Zelda Wii-U will come out in 2014, even though all evidence thus far points to a 2015 release?

the Aussie Gamer article isn't very accurate itself. in the paragraph just before MICROSOFT WILL STEAL NINTENDO'S CORE MARKET, the author says the wii u has sold 6M wii u's (exact quote: "the total worldwide sales have already eclipsed 6 million units, they need only sell another 3 million over Christmas.") Nintendo's own numbers say 3.91M units sold as of Oct 1st 2013 ( http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/sales/hard_soft/index.html ) . so yes, it is INSANE to think nintendo will sell 9M total wii u's by march 31, 2014

Alright, alright fine. You're right. Yes his information is a bit misinformed but at least his argument holds more ground than the Daily Finances article.

Also, Zelda U may come out this year. Unlikely yes, but still possible.

The Majority of consumers who factor in pricing into their decesion won't be buying any of the 8th gen consoles. The Wii U being cheapest means nothing when its only $100 cheaper. For only $100 more your getting a console with a HDD,cJapan is totally getting the PS4 in February but Sony has reached out and will have at least one Japan centric launch title from every major publisher come its launch day. Vita TV is launching soon as well which will hold the market till February on price alone.

To be fair I don't think the WIi U will do that bad in its life cycle but I feel like its not going to do as well this holiday season if the guys at NCL actually decided to capitalize on their one year head start. (to be honest they couldn't even if they wanted to). In no way will nintendo hit its 9m goal.

I'm always amused that there's a belief because Nintendo lost sales because of less powerful than expected hardware, a more expensive price tag than some people are willing to pay at launch, competition from an already strong current gen, a questionable operating system, a loss of customers due to tablets and smartphones, and delayed and non existent software support, that NONE OF THESE THINGS COULD EVER AFFECT THE PS4 OR THE XBONE!!!

They may sell a million each at launch, but I'll be curious to see 6 months sales figures down the line.

Before any great reveal for a Nintendo game, must come an advert full of XB1 non gameplay cutscenes.

It seems that this dialogue happened with the Wii too, then Nintendo dropped a number of awesome exclusives and the haters had to re-focus their argument back to graphical power.

I've also gone to some stores which are sold out of the new hardware-software bundles, so I think Wii U is going to sneak into some living rooms this Christmas.

@Sony_70 Put yourself in a Japanese developer shoes. Do you really see yourself jumping to the PS4 immediately or sticking with the PS3 (which is a Japanese game haven) and constantly making 3DS (which is also quickly becoming a haven for Japanese games)? I want you to honestly answer that.
I think is gonna be a good while until most Japanese developers start making legit games for PS4.
Heck, I bet Atlus is even trying to figure out if Persona 5 should be a cross gen game or a next gen game only.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I do plan on getting a PS4 eventually.

Whether or not Kinect steals thunder from Wii U really depends on who is driving the console purchase in the house. I'd say it's not the central selling point of the system, but it could be something to placate any more casual users in the house if the principle driver wants it for Madden, FIFA, COD or whatever normally sells on the Xbox.

Price is definitely going to work against all these machines. I know if I didn't have an interest in the Wii U I wouldn't be buying any of them no matter how much children begged me, I'd be saying "you got an iPad and a 3DS and that's enough!"

@Blastoise-san

I'd do what japanese publishers are already starting to do since TGS, by making cross gen games. They've already decided and the fact that these guys are making PS3/PS4 titles says alot of what the Japanese Market plans to do console wise. Sony has made a pretty great eco system for Playstation and they want in it. I wouldn't be surprised next year if we slowly start to see more pubs push the Vita as well. (that was always going to happen tbh, pubs like money and in Japan 3ds is probably close to its saturation point).

Yakuza Ishin- PS3/PS4 (Sega)
Final Fantasy 14 a relam reborn- PS3/PS4 (Square)
Natural Doctrine- PS3/PS4/Vita ( Kadokawa Games Studio)
Guilty Gear Xrd- PS3/PS4 (
Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends- PS3/PS4/Vita (Tecmo Koei)
Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive- PS4 (5pb)
Earth Defense Force- PS4/Vita (D3)

All of the big mainstream japanese publishers are going mutliplatform or Sony platform exclusives, while the smaller Japanese publishers are just staying sony exclusive in both instances the Wii U has no Major allies that aren't first party titles. The 3DS will continue to clean the Vita's clock (Vita will rise again but just like PSP to DS it won't touch the 3DS).

Persona 5 will totally be a cross gen game I figure. PS4/PS3 with either a Vita version at launch or a year or two from now. I would throw in the 360 but the JRPG market for anything thats not called Final Fantasy is dead.
