I think its fair to say deep in nintendo HQ theres a team wearing a VR headset looking around a Mario or even a Zelda based world. That thought alone gets me hyped, but does it excite you? What do you want to see if Nintendo reaveled this in 2016?
My thought is possibly they would launch a virtual boy mach 2 and some sort of power glove mach 2 alongside!

Sure, but let's not call it Virtual Boy, that name is tainted. I like VR, and third person also seems to work in VR, so it's a great way to feel closer to the action than ever before. But VR does need high resolution. Full HD is the lowest acceptable resolution for a high quality VR product. So preferably it would need to be part of the next Nintendo console.

Yeah, Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus look cool, but I don't think they're there yet.

Maybe in a few more years? And even then, will it be VR or a screen really close to my face?

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Oculus Rift is nothing like a screen close to your face. There's is depth to everything you see. It's full 3D. You actually feel as though you can reach out and touch objects. It's supposed to be pretty mind blowing and according to everyone that's tried it, very hard to describe to anyone else. In fact the experience is so convincing people are experiencing motion sickness. It may not be perfect but it's come a long way.

I am convinced the Oculus Rift is going to take the gaming world by storm. Especially when people start pairing it up with games like Minecraft. I know I'll be getting one. No doubt in my mind. Just imagine exploring a haunted mansion with a few buddies and feeling as though you're actually there. I can't wait.

Only the first OR had some people experience a screen to close to my face feeling because of the low resolution. But the consumer version might have a 2.5K screen(close to your face) so you won't notice a blocky screen that puts you off. A VR headset is basically a stripped smartphone with two lenses to focus at the screen a few centimeters away. Smartphones also have high quality motion sensors so the only thing still needed are ways to include your hands and feet into the VR world to complete the experience. But Nintendo already has the Wiimotes and Balance board as the first steps into that world.

I just saw a review online about the Samsung VR gear and the guy rated it highly. Just maybe IF the next handheld and console are linked as its been spoken about, nintendos new handheld might connect to a headset like the VR gear keeping costs down and delivering a decent VR experience.

And before you say it was a good console,
it had only 22 games (14 outside of JP. also only 4 launch titles) and not many of them were system sellers
it was half-finished
it ate batteries faster than a binge-eating kirby

I don't think Nintendo is interested in VR. It's getting a lot of buzz amongst the sort of people that frequent internet message boards, and rightly so, it's awesome when it's done right, but it's not going to become a mainstream thing. It's too expensive, and frankly too dorky looking. Nintendo is still trying to come up with the next DS and the next Wii, so I can't see them going for something like VR. Would love to be wrong on this though.

Lol thats it....
seriously though check out the Samsung VR gear and it does deliver now!
Imagine in 2 years how far technology would have come and using the new sharp screens mentioned in nintendo life earlier. I do want to see nintendo VR definitely.

Looks like Ol' Gil's got a thing for Virtual Reality.

As for Nintendo using the concept nowadays, it's a possibility. It would work great for stuff like Metroid Prime or Pokemon Snap, but not much else. For stuff like Super Mario 3D World or Wind Waker it would just be unnecessary and pointless.

Lucky ol gil isnt designing it but hopefully, if his big sale comes in, he'll be able to afford one. Right after he pays his wife for some sort of human contact

If Nintendo is smart, they're going to be working on this, and more towards the control aspects on how to make full body motion controls work. Because that's the next logical step forward, games that can be fully controlled through natural body movements. VR is nearly meaningless as an innovation without something like the Kinect or the Virtuix Omni to go along with it, otherwise it's just Imax with a controller, it looks pretty but it's not really immersive.

I would hope Nintendo is protyping it just in cash VR becomes a big thing, which I personally don't think it will. I know Microsoft is working on some stuff for VR just in case.

Creating games that utilise VR technology exclusively will probably be much too expensive for their own good, but I can imagine a lot of VR "ports" of older titles. Imagine GTA V in VR… or not. =P

Come to think of it, the world of Super Mario 3D World in VR seems much more terrifying (what with all of the obstacles and pitfalls) than an open world crime adventure.

I dont think anyone can touch nintendo when it comes to creating the BEST games for its own platforms. I really think with Nintendo aboard the VR train it would help push it to a much wider audience and actually help VR catch on in more homes than if its just sony and occulus.

I think today that Nintendo could rework a gamepad into a VR headset. Add in wiimote and chuck controls and Nintendo could have the best vr headset out today. And I don't need to have hyper HD Avatar like worlds to explore. Just give me the ability to play the new Zelda with a VR headset.

Sure they are working on it. They must be working on a lot of things, most of which will never see the light. But I doubt VR is one of them, it'll be a thing sooner or later.
