Nintendo isn’t planning on bringing its games to smartphones and tablets any time soon, but the company does appear to be extending its reach on such devices.
According to a report from Japanese business paper Nikkei, Nintendo is gearing up to launch free game demos/mini-games on these mobile platforms.
Advertising will also be increased on smartphones and tablets. Both moves will aid Nintendo in better marketing its products.
Outlet Dr. Serkan Toto, reporting on the news, writes that “Nintendo wants to use smartphones to expand its potential user base by spreading information about new game releases, i.e. by using video to introduce future titles,” possibly through an official app.
Meanwhile, the “playable demos of console games” are a means “to give smartphone-only players a taste of the experience without making the actual game available on non-Nintendo devices and convert these users into Nintendo customers.”
Assuming Nikkei’s report is accurate, Nintendo will be making this news official on Thursday during its latest financial results briefing.
well if it's limited to demos and minigames, this will be a smart move.

this might even be what Nintendo need, you know like "if the casuals are going away we'll invade their new zone and bring them back" since bringing the hardcores failed so far.

I think this is a good idea, I have a friend who hasn't got a 3DS yet. He's a big fan of games like Fire Emblem, I guarantee if he were to play a demo of that on his smart phone he'd go out and by the 3DS. He just needs that little nudge.
Totally. Show the casual smartphone gamers who just get any ripoff that's free what REAL quality is.
The only downside I can see to this are that people will probably be complaining about "Well if you can get a demo working on iPhones, why not just develop the full game for it!?"
I'm just afraid they might end using WarioWare for Smartphones.... it fits well it's short and simple but it's too good to leave out of the 3DS!!!!(not saying WiiU because of Game&Wario)

Advertising and companion apps were pretty obvious. I'm just wondering what these demos and mini games could be. If this happens, it will most likely end up being like what Sony has done with Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank.
Companion/advertising apps:
Nintendo Zone
Nintendo Video
Pokedex
Streetpass relay
eShop(already confirmed)
Demos/mini games:
Unknown
Pretty much all of the games on 3DS don't really have a mini version. The only game I can think of that doesn't require buttons, is Fluiduty and Freaky Forms. I'm sure Nintendo will only be allowing touch based games, if at all. Besides the marketing and companion apps, I'm taking the mini/demo games possibility with a bag of salt.
EDIT: Also, I could see QR codes playing a role, but who knows...?
@SCAR392 they could also make the minigames like the ones in the Pokémon Global link just random simple stuff but with themes of their games(and actual gameplay videos too in a conveniently huge button that leads to the extras section)

That would make sense; having Global Link be an app. Those games wouldn't be playable on your smartphone, otherwise, and are already on the internet. So ya, I agree with something like that.

They have quality too.
Apparently that quality isn't real, though.
the problem is that their quality is buried under a heap of trash since Nintendo is a well known name it'll stand out from the rest and will be hanging in the top of the pile of trash instead of being hidden inside like the other gems
