I get a feeling Nintendo is hoping DK, MK, and probably Watch_Dogs will hold down the fort for the first half of the year, then in June they can use E3 to promote their new 'non wearable' console(?), plus release dates for SSB, Bayonetta, X, and Hyrule, and a few more new games. Plus a Zelda reveal for next year.

I think when Iwata says Nintendo need to market towards the USA, it means in part using E3.

I really hope they don't decide the best way to do E3 is by announcing the release dates of known games.

I'm only half way through Mario 3d World....

I've got plenty to do on my system. I just want Nintendo to release more games so that they will sell more systems...

Hmm... Lemme think...

February ??? (tax returns) - Bravely Default and/or Windwaker HD
February 21st - DKCTF
March 7th - W101 or Pikmin 3 or eShop stuffs or random 3rd party backloggery from launch
March 21st - Probably ignored because
March 22nd (birthday) - similar to March 7th and likely going to play with friends
April 4th - possibly finish out my backloggery
April 18th - by now, Yoshi's New Island and Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright/Professor Layton are out, not to mention Conception II
May 2nd - something from the above list, and maybe eShops
May 16th - same as last two weeks maybe MK8, if it's out, yet
May 30th - MK8, if it wasn't out, two weeks ago.

I'm covered for the entire gap, and that ignores the fact that I have to save up money for school payments, upgrade my computer, save up money so I'm not running on empty, and pay stuff off. I won't be able to afford something big every two weeks, much as I'd love to. I'll be feeding off the eShop more than full physical releases, but I'll still get eShop love. Even a Summer physical disc drought wouldn't really stop me entirely, as I'll be making due with time off and hoping I don't run out. Seriously, if I tried to stick to this schedule exactly, I'd be in big trouble, by the time Fall rolls around. Nintendo dun good enough for me.

A nifty calendar (Updated 9/13/15)

Why explain that its ok for you ? Dosent change the fact that the majority is waiting for more games, and are unhappy with todays situation.
And bringing in eshop and other small stuff to filll the gaps is just hilerious. Fact is, DK is the only title worth mentioning until mk8 arrives, and that is very weak. Nintendo lacks partnerships with big 3rd party multi and exclusives, they should also buy up some more companies... This will give them the steady acceptable flow of good / big games that they need. As you guys said, Nintendo cant make 12 big titles A year.

If we get anything from Nintendo for Wii U between DKC: TF and MK8, it'll probably be a minor eShop title. Just goes to show just how badly Nintendo underestimated HD game development.

Ignore my previous responses in this thread. There is only one correct answer to the basic question of this thread:

the only game I need this year

There are many answers and yours is definetely not the correct one!The question is next nintendo game after donkey kong.Shovel knight is a great game, but it is not nintendo game. Most of the answers are about eshop games and even a lot of people are talking about 3DS.What I was trying to say is that nintendo lacks not only 3rd party support, but even 1st party. The gap between Tropical freeze and mario kart is almost 3 months, and I was hoping that we will get something else, but as time goes by I highly doubt that!

My guess will be SNES remix.

@spoty I don't care, I don't need a Nintendo game between DK and Mario Kart because Shovel Knight
/thread

[edit]
ok, yes, I am making fun of the thread a bit. However indie games have been some of my favourite titles over the last year. I had almost as much fun with Steam World Dig as I had with A Link Between Worlds and I'd rate the latter as my GOTY. I reckon I probably had more fun with Steam World Dig than I had with 3D World. And I loved 3D World.

So being perfectly honest a game like Shovel Knight might not be as flashy as a big retail title but... who cares if it's as good, fresh, interesting and fun as some of these indie titles have been lately.

Indie games are backups, not replacements. The indie games has been hyped up to much, in my opinion. Yes, Minecraft and some few other titles has/is been really great and have shown that they can stand alone and be just as awesome and fullfilling as a good AAA title, but that is just some lucky hits at the right time, the rest of the indie games is a different story. I dont like the trend where people start placing the indie games next to the AAA games, its not the same. Mario kart 8 vs a random indie game on eshop... there is a big difference and it also targets a MUCH smaller group of people, who cant get enough of those small retro type of games.
So if Nintendo think they can just release a AAA Game every 3-4 months and be indie friendly, they are really fu.....

I don't see why they'd be messed up AAA games are expensive to make they can't toast their money on consecutive releases games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and well anything vompetitive with online features don't mix well with releases being too close to each other. also it's not every stunning awesome game that's AAA most really amazing things Nintendo has done can't even be called AAA.

Thank you for stating this for everyone. Most of us didn't spend $350 on a Wii U so that we could play $10 indie games that could just as well run on an android console or smartphone. Not to say there's anything wrong with indie games... but for instance, I just picked up Mass Effect 3 and Bit.trip Runner 2 for roughly the same price. These games are not equal. The overall experience of ME3 is far above that of Runner 2 (which although it can be fun in small doses, it's pretty much just the same thing over and over.) You just can't compare the level of depth you get from a 7th/8th gen 1st or 3rd party game and that of an indie. I bought the Wii U to play games that actually utilize and take advantage of the hardware of the Wii U.

The other argument I hear a lot is "Well there's these 4 big games coming out this year, you shouldn't need more than that". That's great that there's 4 major releases, but that argument assumes that every single person likes every single genre of game and will buy every game that Nintendo releases, just because.

@Howard24U To be fair, back when Psychonauts came out on the original Xbox that was considered an Indie and I'd play that game over a million times before I played anything else, it was just that good. Indies can hold their own if the try and bring something creative to the table, some of those people work extremely hard and to push them to the side is disrespectful. AAA titles won't always be out of the park amazing, but I'm not going to demean them and say they'll never be as good as indies, because for the most part they are, and they'd better be when they have such a high budget, which might be my reason for hating EA and Activision, (EA more so), I just find there attempts at AAAs to be extremely lazy. Early Battlefield 4 anyone?

I personally got the console so I could play a variety of games. If one week it's a massive RPG, the next week it's an 8-bit game then that's cool. When I got my DS lite I got it for both the games like Mario Kart, Zelda and Pokemon but I also got it for Geometry Wars, Brain Training and Rhythm Heaven. The difference now is that the smaller games can be pushed out last minute at a much lower cost.

I don't see how someone saying they're hyped about indie games is any different from a GameBoy owner back in the day saying their favourite games were Tetris and Dr Mario. Same thing really.

pre-Wonderful 101/Rayman Legends, I'm confident in saying Little Inferno was the best Wii U game.

Or I could just compare the critical acclaim of Stanley Parable compared to any AAA game last year that wasn't GTA5/Bioshock Infinite/The Last Of Us and be done with it.

I see what you're saying, and I'm not saying that simpler games like those two or indie games can't be good, they absolutely can be. The main difference is that the games you mentioned were originally released several console generations ago, when there were no 3D, graphically intensive games. I myself have spent many, many hours playing Dr. Mario and Tetris, but I purchased those games for my original Gameboy and NES (Actually I bought Tetris on my LG Chocolate Flip back in like 2006 as well, but that only solidifies my argument). Despite having numerous re-releases of these games for various home consoles, I have never bought any of them again.

It basically comes down to my feeling that I didn't spend good money on the latest and greatest home console just to play games that I could play on the PC I already owned, or the smartphone, or a much cheaper android console like the Ouya or something. For instance, I spent a lot of time (regrettably) playing Candy Crush on my phone. If they released this for the Wii U as an e-shop game between DKTF and MK8, should that count as a respectable gap filler? A lot of people like it, lots of people have played it... But I personally wouldn't count it as a real Wii U game, it would just be a game that you can play on a Wii U.

To each his own though. Everyone has their own interests. I really want that Cube game from the video you posted on another thread. Now that's a game!
