New on the forums and a (somewhat) proud owner of a week old Wii U console.
So far i'm really loving what the system has to offer in terms of games and services, but somethings bothering me a lot.
It seems that these problems occured right from the get to. The day I got home with the console (white basic btw), I hooked it up to the telly and was instantly met with the well known lock up, followed by a loud buzzing noise. I tried rebooting the system, but to the same result numerous times. Eventually I checked online and was relieved that I at least weren't the only one whos been experiencing this. After some (a lot) struggle and unplugging of the power adaptor, I eventually made it through both the initial setup - and that lovely 4(?) GB update. So far, so good. Or well... I was kinda worried actually... For me it's not the end of the world, but i'd imagine kids on christmas eve, not to mention their parents would be furious if this kinda stuff happened on a newly bought product.
Safe to say - this left a really bad first impression.
At least it seems that the update did fix some stuff (v 4.0 I believe it's called?). The buzzing noise is gone, but the lock ups/freezes aren't. I'm experiencing these a lot... Both on the miiverse and in games/apps. I haven't really been able to lock any kind of pattern down, as this seems to occur totally random. Be it 5 minutes after boot or 3 hours into a game. I'm currently playing Pikmin 3 (loving the s*** out of that btw), where it does seem to occur more often than in other games (playing Arkham City and Rayman Legends aswell). These problems also appear during Netflix/Youtube sessions, but less frequently.
Anyways... I'm not sure what to do here. I know theres a lot of people having problems, but this seems outrageous. Did I end up with a sloppy first batch console? (Now discontinued) or is this just what I should come to expect from a new product nowadays? I'm unsure if I should turn in my Wii U or not since I'm not possitive whether or not this is a hardware or software problem (that Could eventually be fixed over time). I have looked for solutions (reading up, checked for overheating etc etc), but to no result.
I love this system and what it has to offer, but I feel like I'm on some sort of buggy PC rather than, what should be, a smooth new Nintendo console.
Hope you guys can share your experiences
Cheers from a life long Nintendo fan/supporter.
TLDR: New Wii U (basic) freezes up alot - unsure if normal. How often does your Wii U lock up? Please mention Wii U version and age of console.
Nonsense. I use my Wii U for many hours every day and have experienced just one or two freeze-ups since the launch date almost a year ago. If it happens a lot, contact Nintendo customer service and get it replaced.
Nonsense? I'm well aware theres people out there that is having a much better experience, but thats not really the focus point here :/ Are you on a basic or premium model?
I know the easy way would (hopefully) be to just get it replaced, but I'd like to hear some opinions before I take it to that.

I agree. My wii u hasn't frozen in months, and it never froze at start up. Actually, all of my freezes were in Nintendo Land, I believe.
Edit: I'm using a premium model, and the "nonsense" was to the guy saying "you're just going to have to deal with it". You shouldn't "just have to deal with it", since it sounds defective and Nintendo will replace it for free.

It's not normal behaviour, of course. May be faulty hardware. If it happens often, demand the replacement you're entitled to Nintendo. There's nothing else we can do to help. I can only say I've only experienced a crash in Sonic & All Stars once and another in the Wii U Menu. All were many months ago, before many software updates that came and fixed it. Besides that, my experience with the console has been stellar. The console is a Premium model bought in December, by the way.
@ Steamhare: Hmm - I'd agree on that, but I'm glad to hear that you guys aren't having this problem at the same rate. It does sound defective (If I knew better I would say it is), but I guess I'm just unsure, since it seems that some people are experiencing this stuff way more frequently than others. Anyone with Wii U basics care to chime in?
This has also discouraged me from buying anything on the E-shop due to the console tied account :/
I have the basic model too and I've had maybe 3 or 4 of those freeze things with a loud buzzing noise since launch. Idk what causes it and it's annoying. Hasn't happened too often, but it still sucks. That should not happen w/ a new ninty console.

God loves you
My Wii U used to freeze sometimes in certain games back when I first got it last year. I found that making sure any Miiverse settings were set to English/North America only alleviated the issue somewhat. Today, with all the updates since then, my Wii U only freezes occasionally on certain websites or videos in the web browser.
Yeah, I had some occasional freezing problems in the beginning, but they weren't that common and were eventually eliminated over time with updates. I recommend calling Nintendo and sending it into them so they can look at it.

āI am thankful for all of those who said NO to me. Its because of them Iām doing it myself.ā ā ?????
Looks like i'm having more trouble than most. I've decided to take it back to the store where I bought it tomorrow and hopefully get it replaced/fixed asap. Bit sad about losing all my save games etc, but yea... Probably better with a functioning console
I just remembered, are you using an USB external hard drive? If you do, keep in mind you need one with it's own power supply, or instead that connects to two USB ports via a Y cable. If you are using a USB 3.0 grade HDD without a separate power supply and connected only to one USB port, the hard drive will not work properly as the Wii U doesn't supply it with enough power and it is likely to crash the console. It's a common issue people run into. Don't know it that's your case.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Appreciated
If you've purchased anything on the e-shop. Do not send it to the store. They will more likely than not just throw a new one at you, and whatever you bought will be lost.

I have, on purpose, not bought anything on the E-shop. Guess I kinda knew the answer to my question (that I probably had to get a new one). It's insane that we still have accounts linked to the console nowadays :/
