We literally just had a Paper Mario game a couple days ago, do we really need another one so soon? Unless it's a re-release of TTYD, I'm not getting too excited...
please let it be like TTYD/64 please let it be like TTYD/64

I'm torn between wanting this game to be like the first game and TTYD on steroids and wanting to keep my expectations in check considering the recent trend with Mario RPGS.
Let's be clear from the start on this to avoid lengthy discussions, Paper Jam has shown us that, if confirmed, the new Paper Mario won't have as many new characters and settings as 64 and TTYD. In fact, it couldn't have any, like Paper Jam. We have to keep expectations in check on these aspects to avoid hopes on what Intelligent Systems and AlphaDream cannot provide at the moment.
We can legitimately expect paper Koopalings as they were announced in Paper Jam, but that's it.
@Mister_Wu: In that case, I want this to return to traditional turn-based battles at the very least. Enough with the gimmicks. The platforming of Super Paper Mario was okay, but kind of tacky from what little I remember. However, the sticker system in Sticker Star was just a messy disappointment and what really dragged down that game for me. Maybe partners could return, even if they weren't a diverse bunch like TTYD's and were like 64's in that they were heroic versions of traditional Mario enemies with individual quirks.
The first Paper Mario was actually mostly compliant with the current "NSMB guidelines" (Bowser was even the main villain who kidnapped Peach), with the exception of the many original characters, so I expect something like that, minus the original characters. But Intelligent Systems since Super Paper Mario showed that it wants to experiments new gameplay mechanics, so I'm not really sure if it will be like the first in the gameplay.
I think the best we can expect is a game like the first Paper Mario, which would already be a good thing (but really, having one of the Koopalings as partner - think about Lemmy in Super Mario-Kun, who is actually a friend of Mario and even helps him - would be one of the best ways to be compliant with the "NSMB guidelines" while totally disregarding them...)
I really hope it's not Paper Mario.Out of the Mario RPG's I've only really played Super Mario RPG,TTYD and Super Paper Mario but I didn't enjoy any of them. This series is definitely not for me!

That's... what? There's no reason why they couldn't (and every reason why they SHOULD) have new characters and settings. It's a major reason why I (and probably many others, for that matter) enjoy the series.
From your parters, to side characters, to the boss characters, they were full of interesting personalities. I'll take "Teenage Not-Mutant Ninja Koopas" for 500, Alex.
And the worlds themselves; Paper Mario had all the quintessential world types ("Green Hill Zone", desert place, spooky place, jungle / lava place, etc), while Thousand Year Door went in a completely different direction (a den of iniquity as a hub? A fighting arena? a TRAIN?! A frozen outpost with Bom-ombs that speak with a stereotypical Russian accent that possess a silo w/ cannon that would make anyone who grew up in the 80's a tad uncomfortable? YES PLEASE!)
I REALLY hope that, whenever a new Paper Mario is revealed (now or later), that the development team isn't held back, and they make, as was said earlier, Paper Mario 64 & TTYD on steroids.
Ok, sorry, I am waiting for the Miiting of the 29th of January on Paper Jam, but I'm under the impression that the developers are forced to follow guidelines that don't really fit them (both AlphaDream and Intelligent Systems added many new characters and settings). I too really like new settings (Boggly Woods and Riverside Station...) and characters (just think about the partners: Goombario, Kooper, Lady Bow, Sushie, Goombella, Koops, MiniYoshi, Admiral Bobbery...), but it's clear that at the moment this is not happening, and we should not expect that.
This is why I said that we should expect a game like the first Paper Mario without the original characters, or a game with a radical new gameplay if the developers at Intelligent Systems want to "use" this situation to test new ideas.
P.S.: I'm ok with the NinjaKoopas, but why isn't anyone missing Jr. Troopa????????
And by the way, I would be also missing THE Paper Mario character, the village leader, the beautiful fat Yoshi that alone justifies the existence of the Paper Mario series.
@Mister_Wu I think it's a toss-up regarding whether or not a new Paper Mario game would have such an in-depth and varied setting as that found in The Thousand-Year Door. Nintendo's strategy for the Wii U has so far been a 50/50 split between pushing polished experiences (Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Bayonetta 2, etc.) and doing new things in a delightful way. (Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, etc.) We might end up with some new crazy Paper Mario game that makes the past titles look dated in comparison...or we might end up with Paper Mario 64: The Sequel.
