It's been done like 5 times and it's practically the same game with each release. When are they gonna put this tired series to rest?

I like the series. But I agree with you that they are overdoing it. I feel the games are relatively easy to develop and are a good cash-grab. This is not to say they are "bad", but they are definitely a little stale by now.

What I want is a new "type" of Mario game. Not like 2D Mario to 3D Mario, but like Luigi's Mansion or Mario Sunshine. I want to change up the formula a little bit.

Only thing that annoys me is that they don't do anything different like the developers doing 3D Mario. Change graphics style, gameplay...and...CHANGE THE STUPID THEME MUSIC!!!

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.
Another Update: Also Yuuki...from School Rumble...
Yet Another Update: Also Amber and Xiao Pai from Rune Factory 4.

I would not label it a "cash grab" per se, but I feel they are milking them. And perhaps using them as filler.

"We need a launch game!"
"OH! Make another one of dem New Mario Bros. games!"
"Wut should we add?"
"Hmmm. Think of an animal and make a suit off of it!"
"Genius!"

Mario needs to take some lessons from Kirby on both music and changing up the formula. ;)

"Absolute designing genius sir!"

They still have only made one per console so far. It's pretty far away from games which are milked every year.

I think that is even worse! The fact they have released it on the past five consoles and shown very little evolution in the series is sad. Even the graphics are very much the same. The sequel on the 3DS was the closest it was to change and it was not all that good. Or even New Super Luigi U was a decent change with the difficulty spike. But the games are so unchanged across all the platforms that it seems like Nintendo just trying to fill their lineup. On the NES, the lack of change is forgivable. Even then, however, they had plenty of change within those titles. Throwing in a couple suits in each one does very little to make me crave the next entry.

I think I would forgive it more if they were particularly great platformers but they really aren't. Solid, yes. Great, noooo. It was a fun nostalgia bomb that's gone on way too long and made irrelevant by both the 3D Land/World games and basically every other new co-op platformer of the past 3 or so years and one of the rare times where I felt there was absolutely zero interest in making a memorable experience as long as the audience that likes it would give them more money from Nintendo. Also, if you want to see nostalgia done right, play Sonic Generations.

I agree that this series needs to stop. The DS and Wii versions were fun. Got the 3DS version, but I got sick of it by then so I never beat it. Didn't seem to be much different. The Wii U version was the first one I didn't buy and I don't plan to. I WOULD have gotten New Super Luigi U, however, if it was standalone on the eShop, not just retail. Not planning on buying any games on discs

Exactly. Originally, it preyed upon nostalgia. And it worked considering the sales of the DS and Wii games. I still feel it is not a fun enough game in its own right.
