I cant really see anything other than shovel ware coming to this console im mean what type of developer would spend big buck on a free title it will probably be filed with indie title that will likely make an appearance in other console online markets

Agreed, like with most games, the experience you get with them differs. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. In other words free= bad most likely, of course sometimes it can be different like Four Swords

There's always gonna be competition. Especially in the gaming market, everybody always look for the next big thing/ a good console with great games IMO

The ONLY way to compete such a creative and innovative console such as Wii U is to copy it...........which is what Sony will most certainly ATTEMPT.

They've had these sort of "consoles" around for ages. The people saying it's mostly about piracy are right on the money here, most of these things biggest selling point is the large array of emulators that appear. The problem (other than piracy) with these things is that they always end up being a couple of generations behind.

If you got one of these expect lots of Google Play apps that are designed for smart TVs, lots of emulators, lots of smartphone apps that don't quite work properly and lots of people playing Mario Kart 64.......... and probably Street Fighter 4.....

And idea like that might attract all the casuals that were, first looking for the cheapest, then looking for the most shovelware, and so buying a Wii. And we are talking about many millons of users.

This seems cool if it ever actually happens. If it does count me in as potential buyer. I was super hyped about that Linux based system that never happened...the phantom...yes it was in fact a phantom.

I can't see this selling very well at all. If people want to play free games, they play them on their smartphones. Add the fact that smartphones will undoubtedely be cheaper and that you have the benefit of portability, and you have yourself a 'gaming machine' that poses no threat to the Big 3.

The Phantom! Exactly! There have been a heap of those sort of machines. Remember when the PS3 launched with the ability to run Linux and people thought that was a game changer? Well that didn't really go anywhere did it. Then there were the portable machines which did the same and.... were cool little gadgets that people used to play SNES ROMS when they didn't have a PSP.

If it's an alternative console that people want why don't they just build a PC, plug it into their TV and a game controller and play games on Steam? That's your alternative console.

Yeah, and the arcade games that did this....... just awful.... i mean Some of them turned out to be a sucess.... Donkey Kong would be one. But Donkey Kong had more street cred back then, then King Kong in my eyes...... But its aweful that developers made cheep copies of some ideas. Maybe thats why gaming wasnt so widely excepted back then.

AHA I remeber those “plug in, and play” it games!
I bought a couple of those More like the end of SOME arcade games not being as coolhard to find.
I think thats some of the appeal of Arcade games. When u find it u just have to play it waste money. That ruins it.... but u got it at home now

Still an open source home console sounds awesome. Could be best thing ever for home brew and small devs.

I don't see why everyone is so surprised by this. You can do everything it can do on a computer. Windows has tons of free games, as does Linux. Just plug your PC into the TV and play all the open-source games you want

I'm too lazy to build a htcp and rather have some thing pre built. That and the PC interface e isn't built for TVs. Not sure why p. Gamers don't get this.
