Topic: Never played metroid.... Where to start?

Do as I am and play through chronologically, but start with Zero Mission instead of NES Metroid.

The Prime games are the best of the series, and made a great starting point for me. Story isn't a strong suit of the series so it's ok to play them out of order.

Thx for all the responses so from what I see in the eshop zeros mission or fusion both aren't available for the 3ds?

For the love of all things good things holy, don't play Other M.

... it almost killed all enthusiasm I had towards the series.

Do, however, play Super Metroid first then maybe go throughout the Prime games if you can find the trilogy going for a reasonable price. Metroid Prime is one of my top ten favourite games, ever!

Metroid Zero Mission for sure

Get the Prime Trilogy and Other M,both are some of the best experiences I've ever had with the Wii.

I seem to be one of very few people who likes Other M...but even so I wouldn't tell you to start with it.

Personally I'd say to start with either the very first Metroid game (don't feel compelled to finish it and don't expect to...just prepare yourself for an "experience" rather than a game) or the first Prime game. Depending upon which approach you like more, you'll pretty much know what titles to grab next.

I think by this point I've played through all of them apart from Zero Mission...you really can't go wrong anywhere.

You could also start out with the original Metroid on the NES. It will introduce you to the idea of the series very simply.

Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, then Metroid prime Trilogy. Same way I would relive my Metroid glory days. Done.
