Topic: Network ID for each User?

Hi

I am just setting up my first Wii U and am very confused.
My 7 yr old boy is the only user created so far. I will add myself and the rest of the family shortly. I don't want him to be able to access most of the internet related things, though playing online is OK - but I do want full access for me. I assume I can control that (ie settings per user) from the parental controls option.
So, for the purposes of the Network ID does he even need one himself (to play online games)? Should I just create the one and link it to all users in that case?
Finally, and the more technical question, I need a network ID to transfer across his old Wii data. If the network ID is mine (or only attached to my Wii U user) would that mean he couldn't access it through Wii mode if playing as himself?
Many thanks

You should attach that old Wii NNID to your own user (not to your boy). Wii games will be available to everyone in Wii mode. The Wii mode doesn't function any different than the old Wii machine.
Your own user would likely be the one that set up a Wii U eShop account.

Every user that need online access need different NNIDs. So you need 2 different e-mail addresses to have online access for both yourself and your boy.

I didn't have a NNID on the Wii - I am only about to create one on the Wii U. Sounds like it won't be an issue then with the old Wii data since it will be available to all.
I am still confused though whether I should set up just one NNID and link it to my and my boy's user profiles. Can't I then restrict his access via parental controls (ie against his user)?

@paulsmithy: You can do that, but make sure to plan so you can have a NNID in the future. eShop access should be on your account only.

I was going to create one for me and use the same for him with parental controls on it.
Are you suggesting he should have his own (still with controls) thinking for the future though?

The nnid is primarly for miivese and to keep track of what you buy. If he wants to use miivese he needs one. It's a pretty safe space btw. The mods are always working and a lot of young kids use it to talk about games and make friends.

@paulsmithy: also with miivese he will be able to participate in online gaming events with others provided he has whatever game the event is based around.

But does he need his own or just share mine?

@paulsmithy: I think it's better to have separate NNiDs so that everyone can have different progress in games etc. It just makes the experience more personal. Just make sure you have the main account and that you set up parental controls. All should be well. At least have individual Mii accounts for everyone.
