Just a quick one to ask if anyone else has noticed how much quicker Netflix is since the last Wii u update. It doesnt stutter about anymore when moving between sections its smooth as anything now.
Well happy

I've noticed it's been better lately, still sucks on 3DS though.

My other Switch is a WiiU.

They just need to add 5.1 surround. Wii U has Super HD, but Xbox One has 5.1 and regular HD. Netflix is falling behind on their support for both those consoles. I'm not sure about PS4, though.

EDIT: 3DS still hasn't gotten 3D Netflix, either, and they said that was happening.

The only devices I use Netflix on is my 3DS and PS4. I tried it once on the Wii U but I just didn't like how it ran and looked on the Wii U.

Bout time they did something. I had to buy a new TV and it has Netflix built in so I just use that, but before I was using my PS3 over my Wii U because the Wii U was just bad at it and for no real good reason.

everything's good and it'll be that way forever!

Does PS4 have Super HD AND 5.1? If they do, that would mean that Sony is paying them for support. The same thing goes for YouTube with 5.1.

The Wii U version of Netflix still has some notable problems outside of what was already mentioned:

  • no support for profiles, which is a big deal for anyone with a family or shared account
  • doesn't record where you stop watching, so if moving to a different screen or returning to a program mid-way through you have to start the episode over or manually search for where you left off
  • still has very weak gamepad implementation

It's a shame - the weak Netflix integration has prevented us from being able to remove our Wii console from the living room, making the Wii U largely redundant.

why do people use netflix instead of just downloading those shows for free?

Because some people don't enjoy stealing money from content creators.

Of the two answers given in repsonse to this I like yours better. It doesn't take a genius to get a big hard drive for cheap or avoid viruses, but it does take someone with a concious (apparently more rare than a genius) to support creators even knowing they could steal it....and that's the nice version . I tend to flame "SNES on my PSP: SONY RULEZ111!" people here on a regular basis...lol.

Agreed, also it's quite difficult to avoid viruses even on legitimate sites without anti-virus software and it's a known fact that nastier viruses tend to occur on those types of websites.

The moral of the story, stay legit.

TIL some people still don't know how to properly torrent in 2014.

(not that I endorse that, I actually have a very large and robust DVD/BD collection and a Netflix subscription, but you can't beat the convenience of torrents for digital copies)

Easy to make these anti-piracy arguments if you live in the US. Netflix isn't a thing in Australia and often the only legit ways to watch it involve paying sometimes upto $60/mo for a Pay-TV subscription. Either that or you're going on iTunes, which restricts your use, and paying through the nose there. Often both options leave you waiting for weeks if not months to get the content. All of this while there's a torrent there available immediately with less restrictions and often at a higher quality.

Game piracy I have no sympathy for at all. Even with the "Australia Tax" we still get fairly timely releases and the prices are getting better. Music piracy is completely pointless given how easy it is to access these days, if you pirate music you're really just wasting your time given how much easier the legit options are. Even with movies it's pretty easy and cheap to get even here in Australia legit and ripping it or stripping DRM? If you're doing it as a once off thing for one file it's not a huge deal. However for TV? I'm not going to take a moral high-ground on that given the situation is as crappy as it is.

Sorry, not really directed at you specifically but this general attitude that seems to have infected our culture. When I see statements like yours, I am hearing a lot of self-justification and entitlement. I wholeheartedly agree that the process that distributors use still is broken in a lot of ways with a online, digital world. But apply your statement to anything else and it starts to sound silly.

No one has a inalienable right to content others created/paid for. No one's life will end if they are forced to wait for something, nor will they suffer permanent damage if they can't have it at all. I starting to believe that our society is becoming fundamentally broken when supposedly mature adults feel entitled to act like spoiled children that misbehave because they couldn't have the newest shiny trinket two minutes ago.

Either that or you have to go through the drive thru that restricts you to having to use a motor vehicle. Often both options leave you waiting in line for seconds if not minutes to get your meal. All this while there is people with food sitting on the table that is available immediately. So I just take it."

I'll get off the soapbox now.

Plus Netflix sucks when it comes to anime and all that.

Well let me put it this way. If you wanted to watch the final episode of Breaking Bad in the US you watched it as it came out. You probably paid something like $10/mo for a Netflix subscription in order to do this and you got to watch it on any device you want as everyone else did with no risk of spoilers. If you wanted to watch it here you could have got it on iTunes, because it was available, and paid $50 or so for the season and watched the episode on an approved Apple device the next day. You could have paid $50/mo and got it on Pay TV and only waited a mere five hours or so. You could get US Netflix and run it through a VPN which is something that's surprisingly popular. Or you could have downloaded it.

And Breaking Bad is one of the better shows for this sort of thing. Game of Thrones isn't available on iTunes here until months and months after release and the only way to legally watch it in a timely manner is to pay $70/mo. You think you could wait and avoid all spoilers after every US viewer has already seen it? So please, don't act all superior about it especially if you live in the US where access isn't an issue for any content. That said, Netflix is apparently heading to Australia next year so things might change and we might finally be able to get access to most shows at a reasonable cost in a timely manner. I'm not holding my breath though.

Does PS4 have Super HD AND 5.1? If they do, that would mean that Sony is paying them for support. The same thing goes for YouTube with 5.1.

Or it means that they service the largest chunks of their userbase. A couple years ago they said PS3 was their most used client hardware, including all phones, tablets, computers, smart tv's, etc ... Wouldn't be surprised if PS4 is picking up a lot of that base.

That could be true, but I highly doubt it. Youtube is a fairly wide service to everything, and PS4 still got more support than Wii U or Xbox One. It's not out of the question that Sony is pulling strings to get a bit more support with those services, but you could be right. Sony also could have paid them them for more support, because they know a lot of PS users watch those apps and want to make sure they watch on the newer console,
