so I played animal crossing new leaf was pretty fun. I don't got my 3ds anymore but I got my wii u still and i'm wondering if Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival is any good?
Also do I need amiibo's to play? how many to have a good time if so?
Also can I play with the pro controller and not the gamepad?

Animal Crossing for Wii U just Only Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival.
Forget Amiibo Festival, it was a Big Mess.
Not even like Animal Crossing New Leaf 3DS.
And you need at least 1 Amiibo to play, if not you can't even Start the game.
You can only play the game with the Gamepad. You cannot use any other controllers to play. You will also need one amiibo figure per player, supporting a maximum of four players.
I would strongly advise against getting this game. I think it goes without saying that this will be one Wii U game that will not be ported to Switch.
It's dirt-cheap everywhere, so it might be worth getting it for the two amiibo figurines and the three exclusive amiibo cards, but the game itself is a stinker.
Animal Crossing Switch is an inevitability, but it's only a matter of when. If it is not released by this holiday season, then I would definitely expect it at some point in 2019, but I suspect that this year will be far more likely.
It's kinda like Mario Party, just without minigames.
(well there's several minigames, and at least one of them is really good, but they're their own mode)
Funnily enough the one highlight of the game, the mini game "Island Escape", was added to New Leaf via the Welcome Amiibo update.
To be honest if you can find the bundle for 10 bucks then it's worth it for the amiibo alone. You can use them with New Leaf, and maybe even future games.

Huh, I remember thinking that minigame sounded fun, but I haven't played New Leaf since the update so I didn't realise it had been added to that. I'll have to go back to New Leaf at some point...
The best part of it is now part of New Leaf. The rest of it is more or less targeted at a very young age group. If you can pick it up for a few bucks with the amiibo and cards, then complete your Wii U collection. Otherwise, just skip it and enjoy the best parts on the 3DS.
You can play the Wii version, City Folk on the Wii U. Even on the gamepad using a Wii controller. This is probably the best graphics for an animal crossing regular game.
Best option.
The DS version Wild World is also available on the Wii U. Probably not ideal.
Amiibo Festival is not a normal animal crossing game.
